My first meeting with Derald took place when I visited his rehabilitation center. He showed a remarkable level of enthusiasm while interacting with his physical therapist. Upon arriving at Epione, Derald demonstrated excellent compliance with his treatment plan and displayed a strong commitment to his daily exercise regimen to enhance his strength. The team at Epione deeply admired his determination to improve his physical capabilities. Moreover, Derald had a hearty appetite and would frequently ask for seconds when he really liked a meal. Derald will be greatly missed.

Derald was a good man and a great friend. I had the honor of living with him in Campbell several years ago.He always had a joke or funny story to share with me and we both pursued our passions his was writing and mine was sound work. Derald never let anybody get him down he was always UP and jovial. His legacy is a kind man with a good heart and a great writer too. He was always interested in other people and their stories. I will miss his smile and the joy he gave to me. When I was sick he stayed with me and protected me when I came home. I love you Derald and I know heaven has a new member in its ranks. Rest in Peace my friend and I will see you on the other side.

Brother Derald and I at work at VTA on Holloween. He proudly wore his "STILL MY PRESIDENT " (PRESIDENT TRUMP) T-shirt. He was so well informed in political news.

Brother Derald always smiled, told jokes, engaged in conversation with all around him and showed tremendous courage. He really loved his restaurant outings for his fav meals, once he couldn't cook anymore. He was a great cook, having learned from his father a former US military cook.

I loved hearing Brother Derald's vast collection of wise sayings, poems & songs. Here he popped over ( lived next door) just to share. He was an entertainer.

My fondest memories of Brother Derald are when I interacted with him at VTA, where we both worked. His smile, laughter & amazing knack to take any subject & turn it into an intense dialog filled with his vast knowledge stemming from his years in college, church & LIFE was amazing! His thoughtfulness towards us colleagues was endless: he brought us birthday cakes & gifts, holiday gifts, with that extra effort to show humankindness & love to all. I was also his neighbor for almost 5 yrs that afforded us lots of time to discuss his novels ( always seeking my input) church doctrine, his dogs, health & VTA drama! He was so unselfish, even in his frail state, he walked to our local store to purchase & bring me ginger ale, crackers & applesauce during my battle with covid. His friendship is already missed by us closest to him. I know you walk the heavenly streets of gold with Jesus now and I'll join you when Father GOD calls me home to glory
