Thinking of you and Barb a lot. Thanks for the BBQs, CDs and album, and showing us how to master network printing!

But I still think you can have too much bass!

I am shocked to learn of Derek's passing. I will always have fond memories of dinners with Barb and Derek where he challenged our music trivia from his endless collection. My condolances to his family.

Basia and I used to just hang with Derek and have coffees at our local caffeinery, during his recuperation days. waxing philosophical, musical, or just plain ridiculous. Got to know him more in those shared moments, moments that i will think of often although many years and other times wiil come to mind. Thanks for being a friend Derek, shanti

And he left a world behind....
Derek was always funny and sincere in his antics. He will be missed by many and will truly remain in our hearts.

Derek and I spent several years "wasting" our youth in a band together. The band wouldn't have been the same without him, and now our world will never be the same with him gone.

KC

My condolences on the loss of your brother.
Here is a voice from the past.
My dad Rod Johnston was in the navy with yours. They were both stationed in England together. It was there that I met your family . I fondly remember your mom. She introduced me to 2 of my favourite books The Snow Goose and Jennie both by Paul Gallico. I always thought that you had such a great family and so sorry to hear that they have all passed on.
I also used to work I believe with Peter from the Randypeters a small connection to your brother.
Our dad died a year ago and mom just this Sunday.

My very best to you and your family at this time. Hope this brings a smile to you.

Derek and I met when we worked together many years ago, he was a nice, intellingent, and funny guy. At my desk every morning with coffee and full of stories. After he left his position we lost touch. I am thankful that we were able to recently have a telephone conversation after so many years and catch up on each others lives. I will cherish this conversation for many years to come. My thoughts and condolences to Derek's family and friends.

Derek was the best company, always fun and funny, enthusiastic, encyclopedic about music without being pedantic.
Seeing Derek always made me smile, everytime.
It is very sad that won't happen again.

I've known Derek for 40 years. Grew up together... Greenbelt, tennis, GI Joes...watching The Premature Burial in my backyard on a sleepover. He was at all my birthday parties AND my stag party. A really creative guy, we shared a passion for Monty Python, monster movies, beer, Zappa and music in general. I knew his parents & sister, Casey, & his dog, Candy. He LOVED animals.
We created Old Socks at Bell. I still have both issues. We devoted ourselves to creativity, he to music, I to cartoons/graphics. Derek was a good cartoonist too. He never lost his humour & it sure jibed with mine.
Reading of his accident in the Citizen (where I work) was a shock. I'm sad I never met Barb, whom he loved so much. I hoped to introduce my girlfriend's kids to him and his guitars. I created his Thrumbs logo that's on his FB page.
Talked to him days before he died, planning a night at his place. We just hung out alone and talked music and old times. I'll miss him a lot.

Derek and I shared a lot of laughter, heartache, music, wordplay and many, many miles (both literal and figurative) over the last 30 years. I miss him - it's as sad and simple as that.

Friends may also wish to log on to the facebook page set up in Derek's memory.

I'm in shock. Even tho I haven't seen Derek in years I worked with him for many. After he left work we lost touch. He was a character and we had great talks and debates on music. My condolences to his sister and close friends.
