Derek Graves Obituary
Derek Graves, affectionately known as "D," passed away on August 24, 2025, at the age of 38 in his Las Vegas home. Born in 1986 in Vallejo, California, Derek brought light and laughter to the world from the start, always smiling and filling the air with his playful, obnoxious noises as a happy child.
Derek was a brilliant mind and a kind, gentle soul. He pursued his passion for technology at TechSkills, earning prestigious Cisco certifications. His dedication and skill propelled him to the role of Director of IT Services Network, where he excelled in his career. Yet, it was his dry, sarcastic sense of humor that left a lasting impression. To those who knew him well, Derek's quick-witted remarks were a cherished gift; to those he was just meeting, he offered warmth and kindness, ensuring everyone felt comfortable and appreciated.
Derek's adventurous spirit shone through in his love for spending time with his children. They enjoyed traveling together, taking spontaneous memorable camping trips, thrilling visits to theme parks, playing engaging creative video games, and creating cherished moments filled with laughter and wonder.
A lifelong lover of tinkering, Derek's carried this childhood obsession into his 30s, bringing him joy and connection. He found delight in modifying his motorcycle, car, PC, and home network, always exploring and creating with his hands and mind. Above all, Derek's generous spirit shone brightest in his devotion to his loved ones. He was always there when you needed him, ready to lend a hand or share a laugh.
Derek is survived by his loving parents, Karen and Ron; Grandparents, Ruby and Alice; his devoted wife, Jasmine; his three beautiful children, Derek Junior, Max, and Lydia; his brother, Jarod; and his sister, Kira. His absence leaves an unfillable void, but his love and legacy lives on in their hearts.
In keeping with the family's wishes, there will be no formal services. Instead, they will honor Derek with a quiet, peaceful, and personal celebration of his life. We love you, and we miss you. Our lives will never be the same without you.

Derek and I met when he started working at Smart city. He was only 18 at the time. He was always an intelligent person and I watched him grow over the years. I will miss him so much. I am still trying to come to terms that that he is gone. I love and miss you my friend.

Derek was the first person I met when I started working at MGM he and I were the last of the architecture team who defined and designed the current MGM infrastructure landscape.
Derek was a good man, a good father and a good friend. You will always be in my thoughts, and no a car radiator is not overkill for your gaming rig.
