DERMOT R. STOKES
Dermot R. "Duke" Stokes, 81, an eight year resident of Annapolis, MD, died March 14, 2016 at his residence. Duke was a successful furniture store owner, and after retirement, he was an actor who appeared in many Washington area movies, as well as recurring roles in "The Wire" and "House of Cards". A member of the Screen Actors Guild who served in the US Army during the Korean War, Duke was an avid Washington Redskins fan and loved going to the beach and tropical destinations.Preceded in death by his longtime companion of 34 years, the late Rosemary Cage, he is survived by his companion, Beth Jacobsen; his son, Scott (and wife Bridget) Stokes of Damascus, MD; and grandchildren Colin, Camille and Colette Stokes. Visiting hours will be on Thursday, March 17 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Hardesty Funeral Home, 12 Ridgely Avenue, Annapolis. Funeral service will be on Friday, March 18 at 11 a.m. at Mariners Church, 1592 Whitehall Road, Annapolis, MD. Interment is private. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Duke''s name may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1041 Rt. 3 North, Gambrills, MD 21054. We met Duke through Beth and were with him for just a brief time one afternoon last October in Wilmington, Delaware. In spite of such a short time in his presence, it was obvious to us that he was a kind, sweet man. Our condolences to his family and friends. We are glad to have met him.

Dermott will be missed by his Anapolis High School classmates. We enjoyed our lunches with him when he could attend. We never expected him to be next. Yes, he was a kind gentle person.
