My condolences Annette to you and your family. I worked with Derrell in Tucson, Arizona and he was an amazing friend and a great mentor. I admired his sense of humor and most of all...about how much he loved you, Annette. I remember saying to myself..."I hope my husband talks about me the way Derrell talks about his wife." My prayers and thoughts are with you.

To The Piper Family,
Please accept my deepest condolences on Derrell's passing. I knew Derrell for about 10 years and worked with him at IBM. Without doubt he was one of the finest teaching consultants I had the chance to consult with. After he retired we communicated via e-mail often. He was a wonderful human being. I hope his final days were filled with family and without pain. May God rest his soul.

Annette & Derrell, There is such emptiness in our hearts at the loss of such a close and dear friend. "D" or should I say "Yoda" was such a good friend that I can't image not getting his phone call or emails. We truly enjoyed our times together, all those Friday night family dinners, early morning cinnamon rolls before starting to work, his wonderful sense of humor and most of his goofy little grin. I hope all your memories will provide a source of comfort and know that our thoughts are with you.

Derrell and I worked in the same department in IBM for several years and I will always remember him as one of the happiest people I have ever met. As one other friend of Derrell's said to me when she heard this very sad news "Heaven is a more interesting and better place now that Derrell is there". I couldn't agree more. He will be missed by many. My deepest condolences to you Annette and to the rest of the family. I pray that the happy memories of Derrell will help you through this difficult time.

I worked for Derrell for a short time in Southbury, Connecticut. Derrell was such a great guy. I will always remember him at his desk wearing a headset listening to Classic Rock music. He was always cold and wore a bright red sweater...sometimes a hat. He worked hard and had a great personality.

Derrell and I worked together in the Telephone Project Office in Southbury, CT approximately 10 or more years ago. Those are some of the best memories of my life, and Derrell made them even more memorable. Annette, I never had the pleasure of meeting you, but I heard all the stories of how the two of you got back together after all those years. There is a God! And now, Derrell is with Him... May you find comfort knowing where Derrell is and how he was truly loved. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

I will always have the memory of Derryl in his office, with his wool cap and earphones on, with Rock and Roll cranked up while he was merrily typing away. He was a wonderful, fun loving person and he will be missed. My sympathies to you Annette at his passing.

Derrell and Annette, I am so very sorry to receive the news of Derrell's death. My heart has such an empty space now but I absolutely know someone just received the most amazing gift of a wonderful guardian angel! Derrell was a loving man who also knew how to receive love. He was an amazing friend and a wonderful teacher. He was a respected colleague and an amazing leader at work. He will be missed and opening my e-mail now without a note from Derrell will be just so painful. Derrell brought to our work space a positive and rich attitude. He was always there, sitting at his desk with ear phones on developing new materials. What a memory! Derrell, your Dad was one of the few IBMers who not only looked at the requirements of the job but he looked at the people. He remained friends with some of the folks he met the day he walked in the door at IBM...that is truly a relationship and it was clear that Derrell was considered a friend by all who met him. My heart goes out to you both and you are in my prayers and my constant thoughts.

I met Derrell for the first time in November 2004 when a former associate of his, Evelyn Tarner, and I visited Hawaii. Derrell welcomed me into his home as if I was a longtime friend. His gracious hospitality and warm heartedness made the stay that much more enjoyable. Even though I had only known Derrell a short time, I feel like I've lost a lifetime friend. My condolonces to Annette and family and to all his friends and associates.
