Crowder, Derrick - Died suddenly on October 3, 2016 at the age of 31. Beloved son of Charles Crowder of Inkerman and Debbie Crowder (Nee Walton) of Ottawa. Dearest brother of Kimberly Crowder. Fondly remembered by many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Derrick had a tremendous passion for all sports, especially football and rugby. He was a former teammate of the Ottawa Gee Gees and played with the Ottawa Junior Riders. Derrick was an alumni of Algonquin College with a pediatric healthcare aid certificate. Visitation will be held at McEvoy Shields Funeral Home, 1411 Hunt Club Rd, Ottawa on Thursday, October 6 from 7-9 pm; Friday October 7 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. Funeral service to be held on Saturday, October 8 at 1 pm in the chapel. Private Interment. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Jumpstart or charity of your choice.

I went to high school with Derrick. I've always remembered him as a kind, funny, great guy who was nice to everyone he met. He had a contagious laugh and seemed to light up the day of all those around him. I was so sorry to hear what happened and he and all his family and friends are in my prayers.

My memories of Derrick are more at the time he was a child, Debbie and I sometimes went to the beach. One memory in particular is Derrick astride my motorcycle when I went to visit Debbie one day to show them the new bike. He was laughing because he knew he had me worried about the bike dropping. I could see however that he was a strapping young fellow and all would be well. My heart goes out to Debbie, Charlie and Kim at this tragic and challenging time of their lives.
