DeVar Bennett Smith "Genuine and Caring"  DRAPER - Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, DeVar Bennett Smith, passed away November 3, 2003 of complication due to Dementia, at his home in Draper, Utah.  He was born January 7, 1921 in Riverdale, Idaho to Robert and Doris Bennett Smith. He was born into a family of 10 children, with four sisters and two brothers still living. His greatest love and joy came from his family members. He was an active member of the LDS Church, serving in many different capacities, one of them being a dedicated home teacher.  We love this sweet, simple, unpretentious man. With his witty sense of humor, even through hard or painful times, DeVar could crack a joke and make everyone laugh. He found humor in everything and we know he is laughing now. The love that he gave to his family will remind us to cherish each other everyday. He was a gentle giant who was strong in character and gentle in spirit.  He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Muriel. They were married June 9, 1939 in Evanston, Wyoming and later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on November 3, 1939. He is also survived by his children, Doris (Del) Butler, Ivan (Gay) Smith, David (Mary) Smith, Carol (John) White, and Renee Smith; 24 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren; brothers, Robert and Kay; sisters, Rayola Allen, June Nelson, Hazel Peterson, Alice Olson. Preceded in death by a daughter, Marilyn; sisters, Velma Tunbridge, Phyllis Howlett; and an infant brother, Ray. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 8, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. in the Draper 2nd Ward 12600 South 1617 East. Friends may call at Goff Mortuary 8090 So. State Friday 6-8 p.m. or Saturday at the church from 11:45 a.m. -12:45 p.m. Interment, Larkin Sunset Gardens.
