Dewey Thomas Townsend

Dewey Thomas Townsend, 89 of Longview, TX, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 19, 2016. He was born in Marthaville, LA to Jake and Ola Belle Townsend. After serving in the Army 32nd Infantry Division during WWII he lived most of his life in Longview, TX. He worked hard all of his life and retired from Rothrock Sales at the age of 70. He loved working outside in the garden and yard and was a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan, although this year he did wear a Carolina Panthers hat to humor his sisters.

He was survived by his brother James Townsend and wife, Sue of Gladewater, TX, brother Don Townsend and wife, Linda of Walker, LA, brother Ves Townsend and wife Elaine of Hawkins, TX, sister Effie Bailey and husband Doug of Charlotte, NC , sister Bonita Hefner of Jefferson, SC, brother Harry Townsend of Longview, TX and sister Nellie Townsend of Charlotte, NC. His daughter Vickie Townsend of Longview, TX, son, Glenn Townsend of Longview, TX, daughter Carol Dusey and husband Mukund of Kingwood,TX, son Tim Irby and wife Cindy of Longview, TX, son William Irby and wife Laura of Gladewater, TX, son Billy Gates, and daughter Jeannie Burnett of Grand Saline, TX along with 18 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his wife Opal Townsend, sister May Frances Gardner, brother Larry Townsend, sons Dewey Darrell and Brent Townsend, and daughter Ginger Shipp.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, March 24, 2016 at Lakeview Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive guests from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at Lakeview Funeral Home.
