Diane Smith (Gustafson) Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 14, 2025.
Diane Smith (Gustafson), age 79 and resident of Huntley, IL, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2025, in the presence of her loving family.

Born on June 23, 1946, in Chicago, IL and a graduate of Immaculata High School and paralegal, Diane lived a truly full and vibrant life marked by love, laughter, commitment and cherished memories. As a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, she was known for her loving and caring nature, as well as a sharp sense of humor that brought joy to those around her.

Diane shared a beautiful life with her husband Glenn. Their marriage in Key West was a celebration of their deep bond and adventurous spirit. Together they built a blended family filled with love and connection. Diane is lovingly remembered by her husband Glenn; children Richard (Gale), Jackie and Brian; stepsons Ryan (Jessica) and Alex; grandchildren Kayley, Nick, Dylan, Nathan, Logan, Mackenzie and Lydia; and brother Bob (Judy).

Her passions were many and reflected the richness of her personality. Diane delighted in traveling-especially her trips to Indian Rocks Beach in Florida with Glenn-and held fond memories of their time spent there. A devoted Chicago Bears fan, she passionately cheered them on, win or lose. She also loved cooking (her amazing Chicken Goulash, oh so yummy!), playing board games with her family and friends, savoring Italian beefs from Portillo's (dipped twice!), and spending time with her beloved dog Bailey.

Diane's memory will live on through the many lives she touched with kindness and laughter. May her legacy bring comfort to all who knew and loved her.

Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anne Catholic Community, 120 Ela Street in Barrington, IL, with visitation beginning at 9:00 a.m. Entombment will be held immediately following Mass in the "Alcove of Love" at Windridge Memorial Park and Nature Sanctuary, 7014 S. Rawson Bridge Road in Cary, IL. All are welcome to attend.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society at donate.cancer.org.

My favorite memory of Diane was that one Christmas in their Elmhurst home. Diane had their home so warm and cozy with white candles lit all over and everyone singing The Twelve Days of Christmas. So sorry for your loss. My Sincere Condolences.

My most impressive memory of Diane was her incredible smile, that never faded. Every time she looked at Glenn that sparkling smile gleamed brightest. My sincere condolences to Glenn for his immense lost.

Love & kisses, Cousin Carol
