Dianne Burke Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 31, 2024.
Dianne Lockhart Burke, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2024, at the age of 75, surrounded by her family. She was born on March 7, 1948, and raised in Butler, PA. She earned a bachelor's in psychology from Allegheny College and a master's from Boston College. She lived in Wayland, MA, and had a private practice in clinical social work helping families, couples, and children.

An avid reader, world traveler, and yoga enthusiast, she will be remembered for her warm smile, contagious laughter, and adventurous spirit. Dianne cherished her summers on Wellfleet beaches, swimming and windsurfing. She enjoyed dinners with friends, independent movies, advocating for human rights, and reading books to her grandchildren. Dianne taught her family to love with all their hearts, treat everyone with respect, and to always appreciate a sunset and a salad.

Dianne is survived by her husband, John Hamilton Burke; her daughters, Sarah Burke Duff (Dave) and Emily Burke Waters (Asa); her grandchildren, Riley, Jackson, Charlotte, and Clara; her siblings, Judy Deahl, William Lockhart, and Merry Snyder. She is preceded in death by her siblings, Carol Maize, Jim Lockhart, and Jim Black.

A celebration of life will be held at 90 Northwood Drive in Sudbury on Sunday, March 10, at 2:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Rosie's Place or the Lewy Body Dementia Association.

Dianne made our year in Mancester England much more fun than it would have been without her! She was a joy to know!

Meeting Dianne in the Wayland Public Library children's room as I waited for my daughter's story hour to end. Dianne and John and family were about to move to Wayland and she asked about pre-schools in Wayland that I might know about. The rest is history...we became good friends. Raised our kids in the same neighborhood. Miss her so much.
