I first heard of the legendary Dick Jauron in Swampscott when reading the Boston Globe sports pages as a student-athlete myself, at Walpole High School, also in the Boston area. We each ended up at Yale '73 and Harvard '73 respectively, and competing on the baseball field against each other. I will never forget pitching against Yale at Yale in our junior years. We beat Yale, I pitched a 3-hit shutout, and Dick had all 3 hits.
I tried to keep track of Dick after that and was thrilled to eventually hear that he would move to Chicago to become the Chicago Bears head coach. I've been in Chicago since '73, and watched the Bears struggle until Dick inspired the team to its best record, 13-3, in many years. Through several associates of his kids' school and other places, I learned how truly humble and what great a family man he was. He was so much more that a great athlete. My sincere condolences to the Jauron family.
I will think of Dick's strength as I am now going through chemo for my own two cancers.

My condolences to the Jauron family in this time of grief and sorrow. Coach Jauron was a the truly great coach and person the sport of football was blessed to have over his long career. A tremendous family man. His loyalty and concern for people was remarkable.

Dick Jauron was my sports hero when I was a teenager attending Yale Football games with my father. I had the honor of meeting my sports hero a couple of years ago and he did not disappoint. Made me feel wonderful and he enjoyed our conversation. He will be missed.

My thoughts are with the Jauron family. Dick was a wonderful guy, athlete, coach but family was most important. Kay, Dick´s mom and my mom Alice were best pals. So many memories she shared with me. May the family know they are in our hearts.
