I live in Oregon. I followed NBA basketball in 1965--2024 and beyond. Tom and Dick VanArsdale were so unique, being twins in the league. I followed the Phoenix Suns and Dick closely. My love for basketball has been at the highest level of interest for me.
My condolences to the entire VanArsdale family!
Prayers and love to all,
Bill Looney

Dick and I were good "bud´s" back when we were in Jr. high school at Greenwood, In. I knew he and Tom well enough that I could not only tell them apart facially but by voice over the phone. We had some good pre-teen times together. The last time I saw Dick was during a high school class reunion. Dick and Tom´s Manual High School reunion was in the same building as my Greenwood Class of `61. They took the time to visit us while there. I am very saddened to hear of Dick´s passing. He and Tom were wonderful persons to be around and very down to earth people. My sincerest condolences to Dick´s family and to Tom. Gordon Pitman, Greenwood , Indiana

I will always remove how Dick and Tom lifted up a young 9 year old boy who had lost his mother. The compassion and support that they and their mother, Hilda, provided has never been forgotten.

When I met Dick Van Arsdale he was surprised when I told him he was my favorite NY Knick. I became the only Suns fan in New Jersey. Ironically I met him years later at Sanderson Lincoln with Al McCoy. Two completely class gentlemen. Thanks for the great memories DVan.

In the middle to late 1970's and 80's, Dick and his family were members of the church of which I was Pastor (Gloria Dei Lutheran in Paradise Valley. My wife and I are deeply saddened at the news of Dick's passing and express our deepest sympathies to Barb, Jill and Jason as well as Tom and his family. I considered myself a good friend of both Dick and Tom and pray that the entire VanArsdale clan may experience the comfort of God in special ways during these days of sorrow and loss.

Grew up and played BB with Dick and Tom in Greenwood, IN Jr High. Dick was a wonderful guy and great person. Both the 'Vans' are/were just good people. My prayers are with Tom and Dick's family at this difficult time. May he rest in God's peace and security!

I had the honor and privilege of meeting and talking with Suns legend Dick Van Arsdale several times over the years. The only thing we sharedin common was we each had a twin brother. Dick was very personable andhe was a very underrated player in my opinion. Not only was he the original Sun, he was a stroke survivor like I was. He will be missed and my sincere condolences to his entire famaily.
