Somehow, I never seem to get tired of reading the lyrics of so many songs as if the “you” were you.
You know, I had to move the folder I made of pictures of you to the bottom of my camera roll... I couldn’t bear to look at it each time I wanted to save something else and have to see someone I loved that I couldn’t.
Too many poems written for you, my aibo, my Aoroi.

I first met Dilara back in the fall of 2019- my daughter Madison was a freshman at UMass Lowell and was suite mates with Dilara. Dilara was the first person we met and she was the kindest and most genuinely caring person we met on that campusMy daughter was very nervous and anxious about making friends, fitting in and Dilara made her feel right at home. I was so impressed with Dilara and then when I heard she was in the nursing program- I remember thinking- Wow! She is gonna make a difference in people's live over and over again.I know Dilara helped my daughter when my daughter felt anxious and depressed and I feel awful that I never got to thank her 4 that. My daughter depended on her for many things and Dilara helped her out with picking out classes and introducing her to friends. The last time I saw Dilara was probably the time I was most impressed by her- It was February of 2020- it was an
early Sunday morning and it was the last day that we could come up to the dorms and remove Madison's things because the school was closing due to Covid 19. At that time - My daughter thought it was only temporary and then she could return back to her dorm that she loved and be with her suite mates-When my daughter saw that everyone was moved out and that everything's things were gone, she had a breakdown- began hysterically crying - we thought we were the only ones there by Dilara was still there- in the next room- Dilara was sleeping - but Dilara came out- and we had obviously woken her up- She looked at Maddie and said it's ok Maddie- I'm always here for you and gave her a huge hug- I was so impressed with her concern and realness and love she had shown Maddie- something I couldn't do at that moment- as I was just trying to figure out how I was gonna move all of her stuff into my small car. I was not prepared for the emotional part but Dilara was and I will always be grateful to her and all she did for my daughter- xo Michelle Trepanier

I had the rare but wonderful opportunity of having Dilara in my art class two years in a row. I remember my first day teaching at Westford Academy, Dilara was in my class and her warmth and conversation eased my nerves about the first day of school. From that moment on, Dilara was a constant source of positivity and kindness in my class. My sincerest condolences to her family and friends, she will be missed.

I had the opportunity to know Dilara when we were in daycare together years back. I have countless memories playing Legos together and doing homework together everyday after school at daycare. As we got older, Dilara was always such a positive light. Whether that was her saying hi to me in the hallways at school, or making conversation with me in one of the many classes we had together. She was so genuine and passionate about her hobbies such as art and skiing. Dilara was beautiful inside and out and she has made a forever impact on my life. My deepest condolences and prayers to her family and friends.

Dearest, Dilara
For your Mom, Dad, Brother, and all of your family and friends, I chose to share a poem by Henry Van Dyke in an effort to share sentiment of hope amidst the tremendous sadness they are experiencing.
"I am standing upon the seashore. A ship, at my side, spreads her white sails to the moving breeze and starts for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength. I stand and watch her until, at length, she is like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other.
Then, someone at my side says, "There, she is gone." Gone where?
Gone from my sight. That is all. She is just as large in mast, hull and spar as she was when she left my side. And, she is just as able to bear her load of living freight to her destined port. Her diminished size is in me -- not in her. And, just at the moment when someone says, "There, she is gone," there are other eyes watching her coming, and other voices ready to take up the glad shout, Here she comes!" (Henry Van Dyke 1868). Dilara, the deep sorrow of those who are missing you is immense, and I pray that they feel your spirit surrounding them, comforting them, and guiding them, just as you always have.

Whether it was asking questions that were so above & beyond, or putting her best effort into every single thing that was asked of her, she always brought her brilliance & creative sense to the table. Being able to leave such a profound impact on others is one of the most remarkable qualities that someone can ever possess. She will be deeply missed by the UML SSON. Dilara - You had a sense of calm about you like no other. In the realm that we worked together it was such a much needed trait. Any student who had the pleasure of meeting you is better because of it. The last time we spoke I saw the Legend of Zelda poster on your wall and shared with you how much I loved and played that game as a kid. It made me pause and feel youthful and innocent again for a moment. Thank you for that. You will be missed greatly.

I met Dilara a couple of summers ago while working for the Orientation Office at UMass Lowell. It was her first summer as an Orientation Leader, and I was on the leadership team, so I had the pleasure of hiring and training her, and subsequently watching her grow as a leader over the course of the summer. As her supervisor, I was always incredibly impressed by her positivity, work ethic, and passion for making the Orientation program the best possible experience for every student coming through. More importantly, though, there were many things I admired about Dilara as a person.
I will always remember how much she cared about her friends and acquaintances, and how she always seemed genuinely proud of her friends for their achievements, and even though I had not known Dilara for that long, she had this ability to make me feel like she was my biggest fan and supporter.
Dilara will be remembered by many for her unique character and how she set an example to many on how to be unapologetically yourself. She had such an incredible impact on so many people, and will be missed dearly.

Dear O'Connell family and close friends, I am so saddened by the loss of this special young lady and offer my sincere condolences. She was one of my daughter's best friends. Dilara was very talented. I will never forget her amazing performance at the Westford Academy Talent Show where she danced and sang with such pride and gusto. I remember her acting and having a keen interest in improv. She also was a good artist. She played the piano really well too! She was so much fun to have around our house and during outings like the Escape Room for Kerry's birthday. Dilara was kind, funny, smart, generous and, most of all, she had a big heart. We are so fortunate to have known her. My daughter and I will miss her. To me she will always be a very special angel.

When I first came to UML in the Fall of 2019, I knew no one and found my self lost on campus. Although Dilara and I only vaguely knew each other in high school, she saw that I was struggling and showed me how to find everything on campus. On my first day when I was alone and had no one to talk to, she sat with me in Mcgovern and reassured me that I would be fine. That's just the kind of person Dilara was. She was thoughtful, helpful, and kind to everyone she met.. I just wish she knew how much she helped me and how much her kindness affected those around her.

I first met Dilara as an Orientation Leader in UML. I was a returning OL and was instantly wowed by her kindness, her enthusiasm, and her optimism. We ended up being close friends and did so much together. We would stay up watching YouTube videos in the common area, just talk through the night, play games together in a group, and so much more. We had an amazing back and forth in the Orientation 2019 skit and I can still remember all her lines. Even after the summer of 2019, I would keep in contact with her. She donated her time to helping people out and also creating fun. She helped me move out of Fox and into Bourgeois. In exchange, I gifted her a large official UML flag. I went to one of her game nights in USuites and had a blast. We'd have lunch occasionally together in the dining hall, and I got to meet some of her Nursing friends. She also helped me out with a big project I had, too. And my favorite picture of myself was taken by her.

So many great memories I have of Dilara. She was always willing to go the extra mile and then some if it meant helping people out. I am so, so, so incredibly sorry for your loss. My greatest sympathies go out to her family and friends. The world lost a compassionate and shining star this week, but I will always remember her, and cherish the memories we made together. And I have no doubt that in times of sadness, everyone that Dilara touched with her kindness can reflect back on the happy times in their lives with her, and smile at the legacy she left.
May she rest in peace, and may everyone hold strong in unity during this challenging time.

My deepest sympathies go out to Dilara's family and friends. You are all in my prayers and I am so sorry for your loss. I had the blessing of having Dilara as a lab partner two semesters (Microbiology and Chemistry); she was absolutely brilliant. Whenever questions were asked in any class we shared, Dilara would always have an answer ready. She was always so kind to me along with other classmates. Never have I met a girl who would advocate for her peers and put other people first like she did. I will never forget our afternoon FaceTime calls where we would spend time cracking jokes and completing our lab reports. She was a shining star in the UML nursing program and we will all miss her dearly.

Previously being one of my lab partners, she always knew how to make the experiments enjoyable as she showed her fascination and helped those around her if needed. I am so sorry for your loss. My deepest sympathies are with you and your loved ones. Although I was not close with Dilara, we did work on a project together during freshman year. She was always so helpful and was willing to do anything she could to participate within the group. In class, she always so happy and upbeat, and her lively energy was contagious. It was inspiring how much she loved to learn and how kind she was to other students. She will be deeply missed throughout the UML community, and will be remembered for years to come. I pray that she rest in peace, and that you are able to find tranquility during this difficult time.

Dilara and I took movie making together my freshman year at WA. She was the only upperclassman that would help me out and was always ready to answer any questions I had. She treated everyone with kindness and equality, a trait that is often hard to find these days. May she rest in peace.

She was always so positive and energetic. Always telling me to “do it” do anything and everything. Even if she was a little nervous, she would try anything she wanted to do. Dilara was and is still someone I will always look up to and try to embody. She had such beautiful eyes and a shining smile. I will always remember her doing everything with confidence, as if she was held aloft by birds and was not afraid to fall. I love you Dilara. You may go on in peace.
