Dina Christie Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and The Province on Oct. 4, 2006.

CHRISTIE _ Dina Colleen (nee Perazzo) Dina was born on April 13, 1953 in Vancouver B.C. She passed away on September 15, 2006 in Mississauga Ontario. She was predeceased by her mother Margaret Grace Perazzo, and her Auntie Lu and Uncle Ron. She is survived by her husband Larry Frost and step children Desiree and Erik, her father John, her sister Pam, her brother Randy (Kerry), nieces Denise (Greg) and Nina, and nephew Marco. Dina was a very vibrant person with a welcoming smile and a love for life. She had a unique way of bringing out the best in everyone and a natural way of making others feel special. Dina brought this natural quality to her family, friendships, and work. She always saw the best in people and always encouraged others to do their best. She was just someone that you wanted to be with. Dina loved to entertain family and friends and to organize gatherings and, they were always memorable events. Dina had a long distinguished career with MasterCard and Moneris in sales and customer relations. Her fellow employees admired and respected her very much, and grieve her loss, as evidenced by the tremendous turnout at her visitation. The family was very touched. Dina and her husband Larry were married at sunset in Nuevo Vallarta Mexico on April 26, 2006. They were together for 6 wonderful years. These were her happiest. Larry, You were her love and her rock. She deserved you. You deserved each other. She fought a courageous battle with cancer and refused to allow this to rule her life. A special thanks to all her friends that were there for her during her illness and time of need. Our hearts are broken with her passing. Thank you Dina for the person you were and the wonderful memories you gifted to us all. We love you Dina. A piece of all of us has gone with you. Dina ashes will be spread with her mother's at Gun Lake. A celebration of life will be held from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm on November 11, 2006 at 4813 Gilpin Court, Burnaby. In lieu of flowers donations can be given to the Salvation Army.

I only recently became aware of Dina's passing. She and I go back to childhood days. We were friends/neighbours. Times were so different then, much simpler and we moved about without fear. I do remember Dina the same way that friends today speak of her. We enjoyed so many fun times back then. The last time I saw her was at our High School reunion. She looked so good and seemed very happy. I am so saddened to find that her life has been cut short so soon. A great loss to her family and friends. My sincere condolences to all the family. Memories are permanent records of her love and gifts to others. Sincerely, Brenda Stubbs (nee Blackman)

Dear Auntie Dina,

We miss you so incredibly much! We loved your laugh and lively personality. And how good you were to us! We'd like to thank you for being such a doting great auntie to our son and for being such a generous spirit. Everyone who met you, loved you. And I will miss our spa days and girlie talks. Mostly, we look at how much you added to the quality of our lives.

With much love to you and sadness in our hearts that another beautiful person has been taken from us...

Dear Dina,
I remember the day your smiling face and bubbly personality arrived for your job interview. You were a breath of fresh air and of course I hired you. And you never looked back.
I remember learning to make pizzelles at Nona's. We bought our own pizzelle machine on Commercial Drive. And we made hundreds of them for family and friends.
I remember making antipasta at Birch Bay with the girls. And what fun we had.
I remember the great vacation we shared with you and your parents in Hawaii. And did we ever get blown away at the beach that day.
I remember laughter, tears, food, family and our Italian heritage.

Thank you my friend for the wonderful memories.

I have searched and searched and there are no words that can begin to tell exactly how I feel! Memories of the years at Matercard -wow Dina there were many. May you rest in peace knowing that you are loved and will be in the hearts of many. May your family find comfort in the many inspiring words that have been written. So long---------

Dina was a true friend. I remember so many wonderful adventures with Dina - "cruising the strip" & double-dating at Birch Bay, hitchhiking to California together, Girls' Night Out vacations. She was always so much fun to be with, but also had values & a strength that I admired greatly. Haven't seen Dina for several years, but I still feel honoured to have called her my friend.
My heart goes out to all of the Perazzo family. Dina is greatly missed.

My dear friend, we recently became reaquainted and I'm so glad we did! Although years passed between us you were in my thoughts many times. I will always remember you with great fondness and the great times we shared. You and I shared laughter & tears; work & fun; family & friends and oh so many good times. For many years we were inseparable and I thank you that, I feel very fortunate to have had you in my life and was able to truly call you "friend".

Dina,
Thank you for everything. There are people we meet in life who touch us and inspire us in so many ways and you are definitely at the top of that list. You were always there for me both professionally and personally.
I will always remember you coming to the hospital when I gave birth to my son, and I will never forget your support and encouragement. You are such a strong role model and I want to thank you for friendship and kindness.
You will always be in my heart.

Dina , you are truly a special person. To know you is no doubt to love you. You have left a big void in our hearts in the Sales Centre. When we heard that we are no longer going to have you back, there was no dry eye left around here. You had an amazing effect on people. You made everybody feel special in your own generous, loving, and compassionate way. You will always remain an inpiration to all of us with your strenght, your courage and your love for life.

You have told me once that if you had a daughter you would want her to be just like me! I will cherish these words for as long as I live. I considered you a second mother to me too! I feel lost now with you gone! This damned cancer took my first Mother from me and now he took you too. But cancer will never take the love I will always carry in my heart for you. I just need to think of your bright smile to feel better. Your memory will always remain fresh in my heart.

May God bless your soul!

I will Pray for you until the time that we meet again!

You were the first person I met at MasterCard as you interviewed me for a position there. You didn’t hire me !! **Smile** But I did get another position and those early years at MasterCard were so much fun ! It was the 70's/early 80's and we were all so young. No worries and building our careers. That boating day with you, Donna, Lesley and myself..and our respective spouses (at the time). I was so terrified to get in the water. Do you remember ? The weekend at Birch Bay, the camping weekend with you, Donna and I crammed in my van. Elaine and Lesley were also there. The time you and Donna insisted I get my ‘colours’ done and the both of you taking me for my first make-up application !!! I had ‘virgin’ eyelashes you said, as it was my first time learning how to apply mascara. All those shopping trips you took me on as you taught me what clothes to buy that best suited my ‘colours’. You told me never to buy anything that was just OK......it had to be fabulous and make me feel fabulous. So many memories are now flooding through my brain that I had long forgot. I had forgotten just how much you taught me...that amazingly is now 30 years ago. My entire career with MasterCard, both in Vancouver and Toronto you were there.

Although so many years have passed since I last saw you, I will always remember you because of the fun we all had together that now seems so long ago. You are now hanging out with Claudette again and knowing that makes me smile.

My deepest condolences to your family members and friends that have been in your life the more recent years. You will be truly missed.

Dina,
Oh, the good times we had at Vancouver MasterCard---from 1973 to when you headed to Toronto.
The Social Club events--from plant to book sales, wine & cheese parties; the evenings at the bar playing Trivial Pursuit & having a good laugh--you participated & helped plan so many of these special occasions.

My sympathies go out to your family & your loved ones.

May all the happy memories they have help them through this time.
You are in my thoughts & prayers.

Dina gave meaning to the word "special". She was the first person to welcome us to the neighbourhood 5 years ago, with a huge smile and a warmth that captured you instantly. Her love for life did not stop when she was ill - Dina's courage and strength were remarkable, and she taught us about the joy of living over and over again.

We hope that these words provide even a tiny bit of comfort to all who miss Dina:

What Cancer Cannot Do
Cancer is so limited....
It cannot cripple love,
It cannot shatter hope,
It cannot corrode faith,
It cannot destroy peace,
It cannot suppress memories,
It cannot silence courage,
It cannot invade the soul,
It cannot steal eternal life,
It cannot conquer the spirit.

Dina will be in our hearts and in our memories forever.

Dina,
I feel so lucky to have been related to you. What a great cousin you were: how you put up with me tagging along with you and your frinds when we were youngsters and always included me during our visits to Birch Bay and Burnaby. I idolized you - remember we rode the rollar coaster at the PNE 16 times in one visit?! You always were smiling and laughing and had such a positive outlook on life. I love you, and still idolize you, Dina. I know you're up in heaven, making friends and smiling away. We are all truly blessed that you have been a part of our lives.

Larry, John, Randy, Kerry and Pam,
My heart goes out to you during this time of sorrow. Please know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers. We'll see you all soon.
Love, Leona

Dina, You are one of the most courageous, kindest people to cross my path in life and it has been my priviledge. Last January, I stood on the shores of Lake Ontario to participate in the Polar Bear Dip, wanting to chicken out. I thought of you - and told myself if you could be so strong and courageous in your fight, surely I could jump in the lake. As I ran into the ice cold water, I said "this one is for Dina!" Despite your battle, you always expressed an interest in what was going on in my life. You are such a gracious person. When I came back to work after my surgery in August, you had sent flowers and a card. I was so touched - that card now sits on my desk, reminding me of you, your smile, and your strength. It inspires me to live each day fully; life truly is too short.
God has a special angel in Heaven now.
