KOSANOVIC, Djuro (George) It is with great sorrow and broken hearts that the family of Djuro (George) Kosanovic reports the news of his death on Sunday, December 10 at Hotel Dieu Grace Hospital surrounded by his loved ones. Djuro was deeply loved and will be sorely missed by his wife Rose, daughter Georgina and son-in-law Kenneth Giles, son John and daughter-in-law Ru Ding, and granddaughter Anastasia Giles. Also, brother Stevo Kosanovich of Westland, MI, nieces and nephews Mara Kosanovich of Manhattan Beach, CA, Mirjana Uksa of Frankenmuth, MI, Michael Kosanovich of Westland, Dusan Ogrizovic and wife Dragica of Hamilton, Mira Carlson and husband Bob of Burr Ridge, IL, Nada Soli and husband Giancarlo of Somerville, MA, great-nephew Djoko Susnjar of Ottawa, great-nieces Cristen and Alexandra Carlson of Burr Ridge, and many other nieces and nephews in Serbia and Slovenia. Djuro was born in the town of Plaski, in the former Yugoslavia on September 4, 1922. His parents were Mirko and Marija. After having served in World War II with the Movement of Serbian Chetniks on the side of the Allies, he was in displaced persons camps in Italy and Germany. Djuro immigrated to Canada from Germany in 1949 on a work program that took him to the forests of British Columbia. After fulfilling his contract, he moved to Windsor to join fellow Serbs and became active in the Serbian community here. For over 50 years, Djuro was a member of Serbian Singing Society Gracanica, faithfully singing every Sunday at Gracanica Serbian Orthodox Church. With fellow choir members, he travelled far and wide across the United States and Canada, participating in concerts and music festivals of the Serbian Singing Federation. Because of his unbridled enthusiasm for the organization, and his genuine interest in fellow members, he became one of the most popular figures on the scene at all events. To young and old alike, he was 'Djuro' and was greeted warmly in all the Serbian communities. Djuro was also a member of Gracanica Church of Windsor, and the Serb National Federation, with headquarters in Pittsburgh, PA. As a member of Lodge 345, SNF, he was a delegate many times at the organization's national conventions. George was a member of Windsor Lodge 403, A.F. and A.M., Windsor Chapter of Rose Croix, A. and A.S. R., and Mocha Temple Shriners of London, Ontario.George retired from the Plant Three stock department of the Daimler-Chrysler Corporation in 1988. He was a member of CAW Local 444. Visitation will be held at the Anderson Funeral Home & Cremation Centre , 895 Ouellette Avenue (519) 254-3223 on Tuesday from 2-5 & 7-9 p.m. Prayers will be held Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at Gracanica Serbian Orthodox Church, 1960 Meldrum Road, on Wednesday, December 13, 2006 from 10:30 a.m. until the Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Fr. Miroljub Todorovic officiating. Interment Victoria Memorial Gardens. If desired, memorial donations made to Gracanica Church, S.S.S. We were deeply saddened to hear of Djuro's passing. Unfortunately we just found out last night. Djuro was aways a special person and friend. Rose and family please accept our deepest sympathy we are very sorry that we were unable to be present to offer our condolences
