Dolores Holzhauer Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 11, 2025.
Dolores Holzhauer (née Arnold), age 93, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2025, in Louisville, Kentucky.

She was born on January 11, 1932, in Lexington, Illinois, to Gayle and Alma (Deavers) Arnold. Dolores grew up attending country schools and graduated from Fairbury High School, laying the foundation for a life marked by dedication and quiet strength. She married Paul Holzhauer in 1970.

Dolores built a career as a secretary, first working at Johnson Press in Pontiac for several years before continuing her professional journey at the Pontiac Chair Company. Her work ethic and attention to detail were evident throughout her career.

She was a devoted member of the Presbyterian Church in Fairbury, where she found community and spiritual grounding. Dolores also had a deep affection for animals-especially her beloved cats-and enjoyed sewing, which brought her both joy and creative expression.

Dolores was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Holzhauer; her parents; her brother Charles Arnold of Santa Barbara, California; stepsons Jerry Holzhauer (and his wife Bonnie) and John Holzhauer of Kinmundy; stepdaughter Janice Winks of Kinmundy; and grandson Christopher Holzhauer, whom Dolores and Paul lovingly raised.

She is survived by her son Brian Hornickel (Karen) of Mt. Washington, Kentucky; stepdaughters Marsha Meister (Leroy) of Fairbury and Janet Duncan of Kinmundy; stepsons Jeffrey Holzhauer (Renia) of Pontiac and Rodney Holzhauer (Jennifer) of Minonk. She also leaves behind several step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren who will remember her with affection.

Per her request there will be no services. Cremation was accorded and her ashes will be interred with her husband in Memorial Park, pontiac.

May her memory bring comfort to those who knew her.
