Dolores Moore Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 18, 2016.
Dolores Charlotte Ray Moore (Dodie) was called by our Lord on February 15, 2016 at the blessed age of 91. Dodie was born on September 30, 1924 the eldest of seven children in Chicago, Illinois.
During her childhood, she spent each summer in Williams Bay, Wisconsin with her grandparents. She loved to swim and spent a lot of time at Lake Geneva. She was on the swim team in both Williams Bay and Chicago. She also learned to ice skate in Chicago. She would spend her time skating on the ponds in winter and became quite a good skater.
In 1941, her mom and dad relocated from Chicago to California. While Dodie worked in the Los Angeles area, friends told her about Jack, who was in the Navy. They had a two year courtship and married February 2, 1946 and ended up being married four months shy of sixty years.
During those years, she was a wonderful and devoted mother, who balanced the family and her many jobs. Several of her jobs in the early years were shiftwork, but she managed to raise three children and take care of the family effortlessly. She was a very hard worker.
She excelled in many activities. Dodie and Jack were members of the Dune Divers Scuba Diving Club in Midland, where Jack was instructor and President. They spent many summers going on trips to lakes and beaches. She was an avid swimmer and loved the water and all water sports. She was a great water skier. She also enjoyed golf and bowling. Both Dodie and Jack were volunteers for the Citizens on Patrol (COPS) program. She lived a healthy and very active life.
After retirement, she spent many years traveling with Jack. They went on many road trips throughout the U.S. She has so many wonderful pictures and memories of those days.
One of her many passions was photography. She loved to take pictures…of everything. Every time the family would get together, out came the camera, whether they liked it or not. She has two book shelves full of picture albums from the 1940's to the present. They were her pride and joy and will remain in the family forever.
To describe Dodie in one word, it would be "happy". Although Dodie and Jack went through many hardships raising a family, she always portrayed herself as "happy". She ALWAYS had a beautiful smile for everyone and the most charming personality. She could strike up a conversation with anyone. She loved people.
She had a genuine affection for her family and friends. They were the love of her life. No matter the level of life's trials and tribulations, she was there to help with a caring and generous spirit. When Jack was in poor health during the several years approaching his death, she was there for him every step of the way. Her loving example secures, for her family, a lasting reminder of comfort and peace.
In her later years, she stayed busy with many activities. She had many groups of friends, from water aerobics, her ceramics friends at the Senior Care Center, her "lunch bunch" at the Senior Center, bowling friends, game nights, and church. She thoroughly enjoyed all her different groups of friends. They filled her life with much love and happiness. She was adored by everyone.
She was a devout Christian woman and active at Fannin Terrace Baptist Church. She had many friends from church and enjoyed working as a volunteer there in many capacities. She was raised in a Christian home and carried that on throughout her life. She loved and trusted the Lord all her life.
She was the most wonderful mom anyone could ever ask for. While her kids will miss her greatly, she will always remain the heart and soul of her family.
She is survived by her only remaining brother, Glenn Ray (Loris) of Brush Prairie, Washington; her children, Darla Aschbacher (Zane) of San Antonio, Bruce Moore (Pam) of Midland, and Jerry Moore (Dorothy) of Midland; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the charity of your choice.
A Visitation will be held on Friday, February 19, 2016 at Ellis Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. There will be a Funeral Service in the Ellis Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. officiated by Reverend Douglas Lamb. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Dodie was a blessing to work with at The Texas Workforce Commission. We both loved photography and she always spoke highly of her children. I remember she went skiing and hurt her shoulder. She said I will do it again. Great woman, an honor to have known her and Jack.
