I am a lawyer today because of this incredible woman. She was not easy but she was great. She makes me proud to have known her, and not because she was a giant in her field, but because of how hard she pushed for herself, for women, for others. Rest in peace, Judge.

I became the lawyer I am today because of Judge Sloviter. I was in the first class she taught at Temple Law School, in 1972; and, I was the very first student she called on, on the first day of her course on Federal Civil Procedure. She raised a question about one of the cases we had read. Then she called my name out loud, told me to stand and asked me what I thought. I began, "Well, I feel". She stopped me and said, "Ms. Wrobleski, you don't 'feel' in the law, you think". And asked me to sit down. That was my first lesson, one I have never forgotten. I was privileged to have her as a teacher. She "opened my mind" and not only taught us how to think as lawyers, but also how to care about the law as passionately as she did. She was brilliant and inspirational, a perfect role model. Her students loved her. We called her Aunt Dolly. She will be remembered with admiration and affection.

As a law student at Temple in the '80s, I was lucky to clerk for a district court judge as a student.
Judge Sloviter hosted monthly meetings for all the Temple students serving as student clerks...and she did all the things anyone who thinks judges should be involved in civics education should do. The content of the programs was great, the speakers were engaging, and the students all walked away knowing more about the federal courts.
She worked so hard on that program--and while I appreciated the class when it was happening, it means more to me looking back that she gave so much of her energy and time to help law students.
I'm very grateful to her.

II commence my legal career many moons ago as an Assistant Federal Public Defender and had the privilege of arguing multiple cases before Judge Sloviter. I was saddened to just hear of her passing. She was a brilliant jurist, professional and always well prepared. I am truly thankful to have had the opportunity to appear before her. My condolences.
