Dolores Stockdale Obituary

Dolores Jean Stockdale, 82, of Dayton, Pa., passed away Sunday, May 13, 2012, in Armstrong County Memorial Hospital. She was born July 22, 1929, in West Mahoning Township, Indiana County, a daughter of Harry Merrill and Muriel Elizabeth (Gahagan) Travis. Dolores moved to Dayton in 1951, and called the area her home since then. She was a member of the Dayton United Methodist Church and was active in the church's Bible classes. Dolores worked at the Indiana and Adrian hospitals from 1950-1969 as a registered nurse, and was known for her hard work ethic and caring personality. She also loved caring for her family and found joy in cooking and cleaning. Dolores was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and will be greatly missed. Her memory will be cherished by her loving husband of 60 years, Eugene C. Stockdale, whom she married June 6, 1951; sons, Dennis E. Stockdale and wife, JoEllen, of Dayton, Pa., and Terry L. Stockdale and wife, Rachel, of Falls Creek, Pa.; daughters, Cynthia L. Cappellari and husband, David, of Hilton Head, S.C., and Lisa A. Olson and husband, Jack, of Lorton, Va.; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and sisters, Donna Lloyd and husband, Don, of Indiana, Pa., and Yvonne Fisher, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Laird and Elmo "Flip" Travis. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Dayton United Methodist Church, 105 E. Church St., Dayton, Pa. Additional visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church with the Rev. Dennis Howard officiating. Burial will follow in Dayton Glade Run Presbyterian Cemetery, Wayne Township, Armstrong County.

Memorial contributions may be made in Dolores' honor to the Dayton United Methodist Church Christian Life Center, 105 E. Church St., Dayton, PA 16222.
