Dominic Ng Obituary
Dr. Ng was born in Hong Kong in 1953 and immigrated to Toronto to complete his senior year in high school. He entered the University of Toronto in 1973, graduating with a PhD in Chemical Physics. Dr. Ng also received a medical degree from the University of Toronto Medical School where he completed his residency in internal medicine and fellowship in Endocrinology. To further his professional training, Dr. Ng went on to complete his post-doctorate fellowship at the University of California, Berkeley in the U.S.
Dr. Ng was Associate Professor of Medicine in the Department of Medicine at the University of Toronto. He was Staff Endocrinologist at St. Michael's Hospital and Scientist at the Keenan Research Center, Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute in Toronto. Dr. Ng was also consulting physician for the Lipids Clinic at St. Michael's. His special research interest was in lipid disorders and diabetes. He directed a Basic Science Research Laboratory at the Research Center. Dr. Ng had published numerous peer-reviewed papers in the areas of lipid disorders both in basic science and in clinical practices.
Dr. Ng and Sophia had traveled extensively over the years. They found adventures in China, Japan, the Panama Canal, the Emirate of Dubai, Italy, and many other European countries. Dr. Ng loved music. He enjoyed attending concerts, singing, and playing the guitar and the violin. He also loved cooking, especially baking for which he had purchased a special oven recently to help hone his skill in pizza-making!
Dr. Ng was a parishioner at St. Gabriel Catholic Church. A private (family only) funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 16, 2024 offsite. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada in Dr. Ng's name (https://heartandstrokeinmemory.crowdchange.ca/page/dominicng).
The Ng family thanks Dr. Ng's friends and colleagues for their love and support over the years. They regret not being able to include them in the funeral service but invite those who wish to share their condolences to do so below:

My condolences for your loss. I just found out recently about his passing as a letter was mailed out but because of the postal strike got it recently. He was my physician for many years so nice and knowledgeable. Always asking about my family which he met over the years. Always a smile on his face he will be missed.

My condolences to Sofia & family for your loss. I am truly saddened by the sudden passing of Dr. Ng. I have had the privilege of knowing him for over 10 years as one of my endocrinologists. The picture attached is from my last appointment with him on October 23, 2024 in his office. I was suggested by mutual friends from Chinese Gospel Church to go see Dr. Ng some 10+ years ago as someone who was not only very knowledgeable but caring person. I have been blessed as many others have said to have known you. May His peace be with you now & forevermore. Blessings.

I was so so saddened to hear about the passing of the Dr.Ng , Please accept my sincere condolences on the loss of my great Doctor! Dr.Ng will be greatly missed. He was my specialist since 2007. I hope to visit him and pay my respects to him.

Dr Ing was my physician for the past 20 years!
I will miss him tremendously!He provided me with compassionate care taking care of my lipid´s history. Always with a positive attitude and encouragement. He gave me advice twice a year.I know I was not the only one. There were many patients like me.
I am the same age as he was. The last time I saw him a few months ago I asked him when he will retire. He said as long as I can take care of my patients I will hear .

As with many here, I just found out the sad news with the November 18 letter that I received from St. Michael's. Dr. Ng was one of the most passionate and compassionate doctors that I have ever met. We always managed to get through the numbers quickly, with me filling out my spreadsheet while he smiled broadly. Then we could have a minute or two to quickly catch up on travel, music and maybe even a political item. He was truly remarkable. May his memory be a blessing to his family and all who knew him.

I just learned of Dr. Ng's sudden and unexpected passing with a letter dated November 18,2024 from St. Michael's Hospital which was stuck in the mail due to the postal strike.

Now that the postal strike is over, I just received a notice from St Michael´s Hospital: I read that my favourite Doctor suddenly passed away in November. I cried. Dr. Ng was personable, interested in my everyday life stories and always ready to share and explain in detail my medical information. Dr. Ng is a great loss to St. Mike´s and his patients. My sincere condolences to his family, associates, and friends. I will make a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada in his memory.

Dear Family and Friends of Dr. Ng.
I only learned of this sad news this morning. Dr. Ng has been my diabetes doctor for many years and I looked forward to his excellent guidance with my health issues. He was an avid traveller and we chatted often on his adventures. He was such a gentlemen and SMH has lost a great man. My condolences to doctor Ng's family. I am speechless and personally very sad.

I am very saddened to hear of Dominic's sudden passing. He and I were close colleagues for many years in the lipid and lipoprotein community and travelled together on many occasions to attend and present at various congresses in Canada and USA. We also co-chaired the annual conference of the Canadian Lipoprotein Conference in Toronto back in 2015 which was a great success. Dominic was an excellent clinician scientist and his research program contributed immensely to our understanding of HDL metabolism. He was also a mentor to many graduate students and served on the advisory committee of many trainees including some of my own PhD students. My deep condolensences to Dominic's family and friends. He will be greatly missed.

We are so sorry to hear of Dr Ng´s sudden demise. He has been my mother´s endocrinologist for the past few years. We found him to be such a knowledgeable, caring and kind doctor who managed and respected patient wait times extremely well. He was always available to answer questions I had about my mother´s care via email as and when needed, and his timely communication is something I very much appreciated. Dr Ng was my endocrinologist for over 30 years and not only did i consider him a fine doctor but also a dear friend.

I probably would not have passed medical school had it not been the generous heart of Dominic so willing to share information; his calm demeanour to remind me that stormy difficult time will pass; and his gentle smile of enduring encouragement to power me through.
He was an expert in his field, and the respect he commended was tall, yet he was such a humble person without an arrogant spirit, and would always lower himself just to help.
Thank you Dominic for making me a doctor, and above all, making me to be a kind human. You will be missed, but never forgotten.
