Dear Brother Steve,
Please accept my sympathy on the loss of your dad. I can tell you that I think of my dad often and I remember with fondness the song "Oh My Papa". You will no doubt remember your father and how he was wonderful to you. Sincerely and fraternally, John

My condolences to Don's family.
Don was my 7th and 8th grade science and phys ed teacher at Thompson school
after the consolidation of the Thompson with Bellevue schools.
Don made a difference in my life. He was a great teacher in
science and helped prepare me for future paths in life of studying
engineering and computers.
He also helped kindle my interest in history and develop a great
appreciation in understanding what many veterans endured.
I remember stories he would tell during class when I was a kid. Later in
life I met Don and he freely shared more of his experiences as a soldier.
Unlike many veterans who didn't share much about the war,
I learned that Don had experiences from which one could make a movie.
Experiences like being the first to liberate Malthausen.
Meeting Russian troops at war's end. Running shotgun to protect artwork
stolen by the Nazis as it was transported back to Munich. I thought about Don
riding shotgun to protect the artwork, while watching the movie The Monuments Men.
Don's recollections gave me more interest in history.
A salute to Don, as a soldier, a teacher, a fine man.
