Don Feige Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 26, 2025.
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Don Feige on June 23, 2025, at the age of 69 from ALS.

Don was born February 9, 1956 in Sebastopol, California to Ray and Marjorie Feige. He went through the Sebastopol school system, playing baseball and football throughout his grade school years, graduating from Analy High School in 1974.

Don always loved the outdoors. He spent considerable time doing farm chores, playing sports, and getting into mischief outside with his siblings Janet, Bill, Joanne, and Tom.

One of Don's passions was sports. As a pitcher for his high school baseball team, he was scouted by the St. Louis Cardinals and the Kansas City Royals. However, he sustained a shoulder injury, ending his dream of being a professional baseball player. Ultimately this led to his true passion - teaching.

Don studied Forestry at the Santa Rosa Junior College and transferred to Sonoma State with a major in History. He also received his secondary teaching credential from Sonoma State.

Don worked as a teacher for Santa Rosa City Schools for 30 years - 29 of those years he spent teaching 4th, 5th, and 6th graders. He enjoyed sharing his love of the outdoors with his students, taking them on frequent field trips out in nature. He loved teaching and he loved his students.

Don became a father in 1980 to Erin and then to Doug in 1982. They spent countless hours together at the ocean, riding bikes, and exploring their land in Occidental. In 1990 he met Susan, the love of his life. They married in 1991. Don and Susan had three kids together: Lauren born in 1994, Kate born in 1998, and Kelly born in 2000. As a family they enjoyed vacationing in New England, Lake Tahoe, Yosemite, Disneyland, and Hawaii.

Don enjoyed the time he had with his 6 grandchildren: Elijah, Maya, Maci, Easton (Doug and Kristi), Cian and Clara (Erin and Zack).

Don was pleased to check the following events off his bucket list: watched Kate work her way through nursing school, graduate, and become an RN; saw Kelly graduate after successfully completing her internship at Project Search; attended Lauren and Tony's wedding; had his nails painted for the first time (green finger nails, purple toe nails), entertained friends and family at New Adventures Farm (the name he gave to his New Hampshire property); spent countless hours on his diesel tractor maintaining his 12 acre property full of pine trees and his baby Christmas tree farm, finished writing and publishing his Jon Edwards trilogy, and finally a fireworks send off June 22, 2025.

A memorial service for Don will be held at 1464 Laguna Road in Santa Rosa, CA on August 23, at 2pm. In honor of Don, please consider wearing either green or a Hawaiian shirt.

In lieu of flowers, consider making a donation in his memory to the ALS Association or ALS ONE.

We have so many memories of growing up with the Feige family on East Hurlbut. Don attended all of Brian's birthday parties. I am so sorry for your loss.
