Margaret "Marge" McGrory

Victor - Margaret Ann (Michalek) McGrory was born on February 8, 1934, to Alice (Aiken) and Louis Michalek. She was raised on the farm near Victor, Iowa and graduated from St. John's Catholic High School in 1951. She became a registered nurse, graduating from Mercy School of Nursing, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in 1954. Following college, she worked in the Victor Doctors Office and later was an Employee Health Nurse for Amana Refrigeration.

She married James E. McGrory, the love of her life, on August 13, 1955. Together they were blessed with five children and farmed in the Victor area. Marge put her career on hold, as she stayed home to raise her family. Her unconditional love and strong faith were demonstrated throughout her lifetime. She was a member of St. Bridget Catholic Church and the Altar and Rosary Society. She volunteered for many opportunities to help within the Church and Meals on Wheels.

She enjoyed baking, reading, gardening and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Her favorite pastime was dancing with "her honey." Some would say they were the smoothest couple on the dance floor. Their marriage of 65 years was treasured and looked up to by many.

She is survived by her husband, James E. McGrory of Ladora, IA; her children, Mark (Chris) McGrory of Victor, IA; Maureen (Dr. Tim) Aksamit of Rochester, MN; Monica (Jon) Eichhorn of Belle Plaine, IA; nine grandchildren, Erin (Justin) Riffel of Ladora, IA;

Alyssa (Luke) Blood of Ladora, IA; Jared McGrory of Victor, IA; Jim Aksamit of Denver, CO; Claire Aksamit of Fort Collins, CO; William Aksamit of Milwaukee, WI; Joe Eichhorn of Belle Plaine, IA; Hannah Eichhorn of Belle Plaine, IA; Luke Eichhorn of Belle Plaine, IA; five great grandchildren, Gage and Finn Riffel, and Layna, Brylee, and Rorie Blood. She is preceded in death by her two sons, Kenneth McGrory and Daniel McGrory, just in this past year.

Marge died peacefully at her home, on August 20, 2020, at the age of 86.

Mass of the Resurrection has been scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 25th, at St. Bridget Catholic Church in Victor, with Fr. Cory Close officiating. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Will, Jim and Claire Aksamit, Joe, Hannah, and Luke Eichhorn, Erin Riffel, Alyssa Blood, and Jared McGrory. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Victor.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, August 24th with the McGrory family present from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday evening at the Smith Funeral Home in Victor.
