I enjoyed watching Mr. January in Phoenix and at the Senior tournament in Albuquerque. He was always a gentleman and a fine golfer. There were many great golfers from Texas. An I lived in Lampasas one time. Rest in peace Mr. January

My dad Warren Higgins played with him in High School. He made my dad rise to be a better player. My dad used to talk fondly of those early days. He was so proud of his later success in golf.

An excellent golfer and one of the most respected players by his fellow golfers. He gave so much to the game of golf and will be missed by many. I saw him play here in New Orleans. Thoughts and prayers to his family.

I was lucky enough to have worked for Don January for almost two years as his caddie on the PGA golf tour from August 1977 through June of 1979. I was in my mid twenties, young and impressionable and he was in his late forties, a perfect gentleman and role model. Every day of those two years that I worked for Don January he showed me how a successful, accomplished professional should act, on and off the golf course. Thanks for the memories, Don. You helped me to become successful in life.

I used to go watch Don at the 3M in Blaine, Mn and was AMAZED at how he hit the ball in his 80's.....while waiting on a tee, I said to him "Don, I used to watch you in the St. Paul Open when I was a kid, and you're longer now". He said, "it's the equipment and ball today". I said, "I've got that stuff, and it doesn't make any difference". Don said, "You've got to have some hate in you, boy" and I said, "Are you telling me I have to get mad before I hit the ball, as I'm always mad after I hit it?" Don said, "There you go". RIP to an amazing guy.

Rest in peace Mr. January. While working at Market Street as an old retired guy sacking groceries....I would always try to get Don to help with his groceries. I would always ask him a golf question.....and I think he enjoyed my many questions. My last question about a month ago was "what was your hardest hole at Pebble Beach?" His answer...#8. And he explained why! I/we at Market Street will miss him. RIP.

Long and distinguished careers on the PGA and Senior Tours, and an even longer backswing! Don was fun to watch, and his tempo, swing arc, and skill set were excellent. By all accounts, a popular pro too. Another standout, in the long list of legendary golfers from Texas.
