Don Lane Obituary
Lane was diagnosed with the illness in 2005 and had been forced to leave his Sydney apartment and move into a care facility.
The US-born star is best known for Channel 9's The Don Lane Show in the 1970s and '80s and is credited with giving Bert Newton the nickname "Moonface".
Lane was born Morton Donald Isaacson in New York in 1933.
Lane's manager Jayne Ambrose confirmed his death today.
"He son is devastated and Australia has suffered a great loss today,'' Ambrose said.
Lane's son, musician Joseph Portelli, was to perform at an Alzheimer's Australia fundraiser tonight, the Stonnington Leader reports.
