Don Louthan Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 9, 2024.
Don E. Louthan, aged 86, passed away on May 30, 2024, in Pahrump, Nevada. Born on May 19, 1938, Don spent his formative years in Rifle, where he attended grade school and graduated from Rifle Union High School. He furthered his education in Grand Junction, obtaining a Welding Certification that paved the way for a diverse and fulfilling career.

Don's professional life was marked by his expertise in welding and mechanics. He worked at the Anvil Points Oil Shale facility and held various construction jobs. His passion for teaching led him to instruct high school welding classes at Rifle High School and Grand Valley/Parachute High School, as well as at Colorado Mountain College. Upon retiring, he devoted himself to working on his ranch south of Silt, where he enjoyed the tranquility and challenges of rural life.

An outdoor enthusiast, Don cherished his time in the high country, taking scenic rides and immersing himself in nature. His hobbies included playing the guitar, camping, hunting, and reading. A skilled craftsman, he also created numerous items on his lathe for family and friends. These personal interests provided a balance to his professional endeavors and enriched his connections with loved ones.

Don leaves behind a legacy of love and mentorship. He is survived by his son, Zane and daughter-in-law Katy Louthan; daughter Joy Davis; grandchildren Ty, Tucker and wife Andrea, Tack and wife Karey Louthan; and eleven great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by his parents, John Louthan and Cora Bowland Louthan Ford; stepfather Frank; three brothers, Charles and Billie Louthan, James and Wilma Louthan, Leslie and Maudie Woodard Louthan; and sister Reta and Clinton Maxfield.

A memorial service to celebrate Don's life will be held on July 20, 2024, at 4:00 PM at the Old Town Museum, 420 S. 14th Street East Room, in Burlington, Colorado.
