Donald Burnett North, 70, went to be with his Lord on Friday, March 23, 2018, on his way to his favorite pastime to watch his grandson, Myles, play Greenbrier Middle Baseball.

Mr. North, a native of Augusta, graduated from Academy of Richmond County in 1966. He then attended Brewton Parker College and Augusta College. He started his career in 1967 at Rock Tenn where he worked for 34 years, retiring in 2001. He proudly served his country as a member of the National Guard.

After retiring, he spent his days with his family and friends. He was a member of West Lake Country Club where he was an avid golfer, and he enjoyed playing cards at West Lake and Augusta Commons. He was an usher at First Baptist Church of Augusta. He was an enthusiastic supporter of all Columbia County Athletics, especially Greenbrier High School Baseball, and he loved cheering for his Georgia Bulldogs.

He is survived by his wife, Ginny North, his children, Tim (Lisa) North and Kelly (Joel) Garnto and one sister, Gail O'Tyson and brother, Thomas (Joy) North. Mr. North has seven grandchildren who were his pride and joy, Myles, Mason, Austin, Mitchell, Emily, Olivia, and Sophie. He is preceded in death by both his parents, Thomas Aubrey and Elizabeth Donaldson North.

A memorial service will be Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. in the Sanctuary of First Baptist Church of Augusta with Dr. Rodger Murchison and Rev. Will Dyer officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Tom Cely, Sammy Turner, John Ellis, Larry "Smitty" Prather, Gary King, Norris O'Dell, John Crowell, Larry Prather, Sr., Ray Bourne, Joe Price, Camp Ferguson, Fred Brindici, John Chandler, and Ron Rikowski.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made in Don's memory to Greenbrier High School Baseball, 5114 Riverwood Pkwy, Evans, GA 30809, or to First Baptist Church of Augusta Student Ministry, 3500 Walton Way Ext, Augusta, GA 30909.

The family will receive friends Monday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. at Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors, 214 Davis Rd., Augusta, GA 30907 (706) 364-8484. Please sign the guestbook at www.thomaspoteet.com

He was a gentle soul who loved his family and God so much. Our hearts, thoughts and prayers go out to Ginny, Tim, Kelly, all the grandchildren and the sister and brother. God will hold him in His loving arms until we all meet again. God be with you all and I pray that peace will be granted to each of you during this most tragic time and beyond. God bless and may Don rest in peace.

Often it is the little things by which we remember our friends. Don and I often "spoke" to each other by my waving and his horn blowing as he passed my house. Many times, that simple gesture made my day. I will miss him, and my thoughts are with you Ginny and with the family.

Ginny and family
When the Lord calls our loved ones home, He leaves a gift of memories in exchange. When Debbie called to let us know about Don, our hearts just broke for you. We are sending our love, a big hug, and a prayer as you face the days ahead with your precious memories of Don (beloved husband, father, grandfather).
Wishing you and the family strength and peace.
