Don L. Searle Jr.
1944-2023
When you read this, I will be gone, after a struggle with pancreatic cancer. My journey in
mortality ended September 16.
Please don’t mourn for me. Celebrate the life that a loving Heavenly Father has given to
us all.
My life has been wonderful. I could not have asked for a more loving, exemplary wife
than Marie Spencer. We have had five beloved children—Michael Don, Amy Marie (Coray),
Sara Ann (Larsen), David Spencer, and Laura Beth (Gale)—who married fine people and
produced 18 outstanding grandchildren.
Heavenly Father gave me dreams come true, successes, and growth in my career with the
Deseret News, Brigham Young University, and the magazines of The Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints. Writing materials in support of the gospel of Jesus Christ was my career dream
come true. My Ensign magazine articles spanned the 50-year life of that publication, from its
first year (1971) to its last (2021).
Most of all, He has given me knowledge of and faith in the Resurrection and possibility
of continuing growth in His kingdom through my Savior Jesus Christ.
If you wish to express your love to my family, there will be a reception at the Lindquist’s Bountiful Mortuary
at 727 N. 400 E. in Bountiful, Utah, on Thursday, September 21, 2023 from 6 to 8 p.m.
A memorial service will be held at the Harman Ward Building of The Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter-day Saints, 4634 W. Harman Dr. (3700 S.), West Valley City, Utah, on Friday,
September 22, 2023 at 10 a.m., preceded by a brief family reception from 9 to 9:45 a.m.
Interment will be in the Paris City Cemetery, Paris, Idaho, with a brief graveside service
at 3 p.m. on Friday, September 22.
Services will be live-streamed and may be viewed by scrolling to the bottom of Don’s obituary page.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation to your favorite charity in my name.
