Belmont Donald Enoch Adcock, 89, a lifelong resident of Gaston County, died peacefully October 25 at his residence. Mr. Adcock was a member of Friendship Baptist Church where he worked unselfishly behind the scenes for God's Kingdom. Without the limelight, he met the needs of many people by visiting, encouraging, giving and ministering in many ways. He was a veteran of WWII serving in combat in the European Theater as a Tech Sergeant. He was a decorated soldier who loved God, family and country. He retired from Southern Bell and was an avid woodsman. He loved and respected God's creation and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Donna and Donnie Vickers of Belmont, grandchildren, Betsy (Matthew) Robertson of Lowell, Molly Doby of Belmont, Jessica Vickers of Charlotte, sister, Gloria Dean Metz of Cramerton. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Pearl Johnston Adcock, wife, Edith Williams Adcock, brothers, Roger and James Adcock. A Funeral Service will be held at 4pm Friday at Friendship Baptist Church with Revs. Linwood Lavinder and Tracey Mulls officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the service in the church cemetery. Memorials may be sent to Gaston Hospice, P.O. Box 3984, Gastonia, NC 28054. McLean Funeral Directors of Belmont is serving the family.
