Donald Booth, Jr. Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 25, 2024.
Donald Franklin Booth, Jr., aged 72, passed away on July 24, 2024, in Orofino, Idaho. Born in Milford, Delaware, Don led a life marked by his passion for the great outdoors, a sentiment that defined both his personal interests and professional endeavors.

Don graduated from Seaford Senior High School and subsequently served in the Army National Guard for six years, where he embraced the discipline and camaraderie that military life offered. His early career found him working in the family business at Booth Glass Company. His later career was largely spent with the United States Forestry Service, where he dedicated many years in the Clearwater National Forest - North Fork Ranger District in Orofino, ID, and prior to that time he served in the Bitterroot Valley of Montana. His work in these serene locales was a perfect match for his adventurous spirit.

A true outdoorsman, Don was most at home in nature. Hunting and fishing were not just hobbies but a way of life, which he pursued with enthusiasm and respect for the environment.

Don is survived by his mother, Doris Minton of Bridgeville, DE; daughter, Trisha Newcomer (Keith) of Laurel, DE; siblings, Bob Booth (Michelle) of Seaford, DE; Shelly Wolfe of Bridgeville, DE; Terri Faison of Lewes, DE; Pam Bauerlein (Mike) of Tucson, AZ; Mike Meibaum (Mali) of Rehoboth, DE; Dean Minton (Michelle) of Venice, FL; Cynthia Hastings (Ron) of Ponte Vedra, FL; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; his beloved dog Della and two very special friends Tam and Sue White. He was preceded in death by his father, Donald F. Booth, Sr., step-father, William G. "Jerry" Minton, sibling Tina Minton and niece, Tracey Booth Dobson and his "bestdog" Deke.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in Delaware for family and friends. Pine Hills Funeral Home in Orofino, ID, is assisting the family during this time. Don's family would like to express their deepest appreciation and heartfelt gratitude to Tam & Sue White for their assistance and care during Don's last days. Don's life will be remembered as one filled with joy, adventure, and an enduring love for the natural world.

I worked with Don when he came to the Clearwater National Forest for a few years. We worked out of Pierce and also down on the Northfork of the Clearwater. He always had a trusted sidekick with him. He loved them all. Don was a funny character and loved the outdoors. It was a pleasure to work with him and get to know him. Rest well my friend

Don Booth and I shared many good times shooting archery at Nanticoke Sportsmen and Mid-Del Archers. He was a lot of fun to be with! We always had tremendous fun pursuing that sport, and we also enjoyed many cold beers! Don will be missed by so many people. Rest in peace good friend. Hanta yo!

I have so many memories from my childhood of great times spent with my cousin Donnie and my brother and the rest of our cousins. Whether we were at our house, Mommom Waller's house or out at the farm, we were a cohesive group of cousins who spent a LOT of time together! We played hard, sometimes we played rough, but we also loved each other and knew we would always have each others' backs. There were good times and there were bad times, but one thing that never changed was Donnie! He was solid! You always knew just where you stood with him! I cherish some of the deeper conversations we shared when we were older and I would occasionally babysit for his daughter, Trisha. He always had a "tough" exterior, but in his heart he was truly a gentle soul. During the last voice communication I shared with Donnie (via telephone) our conversation ended with me telling Donnie that I love him. His last spoken words to me were, "I love you too". Rest in peace dear Donnie

I was a neighbor to Don for a couple of years. He was like a father to me, a great friend. He was a gentle soul that would give a helping hand without someone even asking. He was someone my boys looked up to. Even after we moved he would check up on us every now and then. He will be greatly missed. Rest in peace buddy.

We worked together on the Bitterroot NF together before both moving on to other National Forests. We spoke on the phone a few years ago and it was so nice to reminisce beyond just Facebook. I'm grateful to have known him. My sincerest condolences to his freinds and family.

I grew up next door to Donny and he was 1 of my Dad's good friends. I can still hear him calling me "JP" (I FINALLY got people to stop calling me John Paul, but Donny was acceptable since he was the only one to call me "JP") I wish I had gotten to hunt with him and Dad in Montana or Idaho, instead I got to live it in many photos.
