Donald Whiting Bush

ORLEANS — Donald Whiting Bush deceased at the age of 85 after a long battle with pulmonary disease and congestive heart failure. He died at home on Oct. 14, 2007, accompanied by his loving wife, and his daughter Penny.

Don is survived by his spouse of 46 years, Harriet Frances Speer Bush, and his daughters, Donna Wigman of Georgia, Lee Edelstein of Florida, Vicki Bose of Arizona, and Penny Bush Novitovic of Wisconsin. He is survived by eight grandchildren and an equal number of great-grandchildren.

Don was born in Hackensack, N.J., to Martha and Horace Bush. His mother was remarried to Richard Diringer. Don served as a lieutenant commander in the Navy, where he was a pilot on the aircraft carriers USS Siboney and Saipan. He received an honorable discharge in 1946. While in the Navy, he was a soloist in the Navy Glee Club.

After their marriage in 1961, Don and Harriet resided in Lake Mohawk, N.J., and Cave Creek, Ariz., prior to moving to Cape Cod after their retirement in 1993. Don was an executive with Revlon Corp., in New York City, prior to his retirement.

Don had a great appreciation of music and all things in nature, especially bodies of water and birds. He cherished his time on Lake Mohawk and the beaches of Cape Cod.

His greatest contribution was his love and devotion to his wife and family and honor to his country. Don was a member of St. Christopher's Episcopal Church in Chatham.

A memorial service will be held at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church in Chatham on Friday, Nov. 2, 2007, at 10 in the morning.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the American Lung Association.
