Donald Clarke Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 19, 2025.
Donald Stephen "Steve" Clarke, born on August 14, 1945, to Elijah Stephen "Skinny" Clarke and Lena Frances Haynes Clarke, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2025, in Lithonia, Georgia. He was 79 years old.

An only child, Steve lived a rich and fulfilling life shaped by his passions for art, genealogy, history, photography, and travel. His diverse interests brought him joy and connected him with communities that shared his enthusiasm for preserving and celebrating heritage. Since 2010, Steve dedicated his time as a volunteer photographer at the Stone Mountain Highland Games, capturing moments that celebrated Scottish culture and tradition.

Steve was an active member of numerous historical and genealogical organizations throughout his life. His past memberships included Ancestors Unlimited Inc., the Atlanta Historical Society, the Genealogical Society of Henry and Clayton Counties Inc., the Georgia Genealogical Society, the Morgan County Historical Society, the DeKalb Historical Society, and the High Museum of Art. Through these affiliations, he contributed to preserving history and fostering a deeper understanding of our collective past.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents as well as several aunts, uncles, and cousins who were dear to him. He is survived by many first and second cousins who will remember him fondly.

Steve's legacy is one of curiosity, creativity, and dedication to exploring the stories that connect us all. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.

Steve will be laid to rest beside his parents at Fairview Memorial Gardens 376 Fairview Rd Stockbridge GA on March 26, 2025 at 12:00 PM

STEVE CLARKE was my next door neighbor for 33 + years. STEVE was as fine a neighbor as one could have. We shared a love of history and heritage interests and a love of books about our world. We had interesting conversations about the history of the Atlanta, Georgia area and history. He enjoyed telling about the Clarke family history in Georgia and
I miss having a good neighbor which is often a rare thing to have. I was glad I could help him in his last few months and days of failing health and help him reconnect with his favorite Cousin,
Mr. RICHARD CLARKE who was a blessing to Steve in the last few days and made the arrangements for a memorial service in Stockbridge, GA. 03/26/2025.
With Respect, Robert Michael Bryan

Steve, I had some fond memories when we were growing up and when I visited Atlanta, on various occasions, I always enjoyed your presentation of our family history. Rest in peace cousin, eventually I´ll see you on the other side, however I´m not planning on doing that anytime soon. Your cousin Robert Hogan

I first met Steve at a lovely family reunion held at my husband's (Greg Moore's) Mother & Grandmother's (Dorothy Moore & Dorothy Bartlett's) home years ago in Dacula, GA. He was really into genealogy and gave a nice talk on the Clark family tree. We saw him several times after that date, and he'd also call from time to time. He was always very friendly and kind. I wish we could attend his funeral, but we have a prior engagement down in FL.

Steve will definitely be missed at family events. He lovingly kept track of everyone in the family. I know he is up in Heaven with Greg's Mom & Grandmother! I remember giving him this photo of us out West together for his genealogy records.

Steve was a unique individual and while I lived in another part of the country and we didn´t see each other much, I always enjoyed his presence at reunions and his presentation of Clarke history. All the history he kept up on will be missed.
