We are so deeply saddened to learn of Don's passing. I will always remember when he and Eula came to family reunions and added so much fun to the events. My kids, now grown, have fond memories of him and how he brought fireworks and had such stories to tell. He was such a good storyteller. Our deepest sympathies to Eula and family. Don was an amazing man and lived life to the fullest.

Dear Eula & Family:

I extend my deepest sympathy to you. We lost a very dear friend and colleague. Don was an immensely bright and creative pioneer in research. Those of us who had the privilege of knowing Don are indebted to him for all he taught us and the unparalleled example he provided by his beautiful and unique life. Don showed us what courage, creativity, humanity, and true intellect means. Not only was he a brilliant scientist, inspirational teacher, and the consummate mentor, Don was also a kind, warm, and generous person with a twinkle in his eye, mischievous laugh, and boundless optimism. He embodied the pure joy of scientific discovery like none other. Through his work and teaching, Don inspired leagues of scientists to better understand cancer and tackle it head on. Don advocated for human rights and was a champion for those who needed a voice. Perhaps above all, Don had the unique gift of seeing the very best in all of us, and inspiring us to do our utmost as researchers, physicians, teachers, and human beings, to make the world a better place. The world is clearly a better place because of Don; he was the very finest and will be dearly missed.

Please know that my heart and prayers are with you. We all must now do our utmost to carry on his example and inspire others to do the same. Eula, you made an amazing team with Don and we thank you for sharing your lives with so many of us.

With immense gratitude and love,
Linda and family
