Donald Coggiola Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 30, 2014.
Donald "Don" Anthony Coggiola KIAWAH ISLAND - Donald "Don" Anthony Coggiola, 75, of Kiawah Island, SC, died on Monday, July 28, 2014, in Charleston, SC, surrounded by his family and friends. Don was born in Los Angeles, CA, and spent his childhood years in Hibbing, MN, and Chicago, IL. He served five years in the United States Air Force after which he worked at IBM, Seibels Bruce Group and Policy Management Systems until his retirement in 1997. Don is survived by his loving wife, Ann; daughter, Diedre C. Cheatham (Robert); and son, Anthony Donald Coggiola (Sherrye Goldstein), children of Virginia McDavid; daughter, Jennifer C. Morgan (Brand); and son, John Gabriel "Gabe" (Lauren Bunch), children of Lesley M. Coggiola. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mafalda Fraboni and Anton Donald Coggiola. "Cogg," who was also lovingly referred to as "Papi, Grandpa, and Papa Don," often said his greatest joy in life was being surrounded by what he referred to as the "lights of his life," his grandchildren: Winston Tyler Coggiola, Sydney Payne Coggiola, Sarah Embry Cheatham, Brand McAllister Morgan, John Gabriel "Jack" Morgan, English Bethea Morgan, Louise Wyatt Coggiola, Magdalena "Maggie" Gray Coggiola, and a grandchild arriving in October. Aside from his wonderful family and close friends of over 60 years, Don will be missed by the other love of his life, his Airedale "Harley." An avid golfer, reader and connoisseur of all things Italian, Don had a strong presence in his community. He was a member of the Kiawah Island Club, and Briar's Creek Golf Club where he served as Chair of Membership Committee. He also was an outspoken, passionate and loyal member of his peer groups The P.I.P's and The Back Nine. A Celebration of his Life will be held at 4:00 p.m. 7:00 p.m. Saturday, August 2, 2014, at the Kiawah Island River Course Clubhouse, Kiawah Island, SC 29455. The family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, please send contribution donations to Lowcountry Orphan Relief, PO Box 70185, North Charleston, SC 29415. I think about Cogg often. He was bigger than life and a very special friend. The SGE Group misses him as he was one of us who clearly "Stirred the Drink". RIP brother

Dear Ann,
Heart breaking for you....we are at a loss for words. Nothing we can say would take away or ease your pain I know. Wish we could have made the memorial. Hope to see you soon and give you a hug in person.

Don was larger than life. He had big ideas, found a way to "get it done" and did not take "no" for an answer.
He was one of the most crucial part of building PMSC into a great organization.
But for me, the most important aspect of Don was how he worked with people. When you spoke to him you felt like you were the only person around...that he listened. And lastly, his skill in selecting and growing great people on his team was nothing short of amazing.
Don, you will be missed.

Don was always a quick wit in random encounters with him at work. I did not know him well. He was a VP, and I was not. He always had a smile, and a nod, when passing near him on the PMSC campus.

I do know his good work in those years gave me an employment opportunity to provide for my family.

Thanks, Don.

Best wishes and good thoughts to his loved one's.

Ann, Elaine and I are very sorry that Cogg is no longer with us. He was both a big man and a little teddy bear – very driven on the outside but sincere and sensitive on the inside. Classy guy and a great friend. Lots of laughs and smiles over the years. I will especially miss him at this year's SGE as he has been my roommate at the event for over 30 years. Peace be with you. We all loved him.

Ann I am so sorry for you and the family. I had much respect for Don and the man he was, such a first class man. I was truly blessed to have known him. May God give you the peace to sustain you in the coming days.
