DONALD CONNER Obituary
Donald W. Conner, 93, formerly of Oneonta, NY, passed away in his sleep Monday, Dec. 3, 2012, at Santa Rita Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Green Valley, AZ.
Don was born on July 31, 1919, in Oneonta, NY, of James Joseph and Edna (Roberts) Conner. He married Lodema Clapper on Oct. 12, 1945, in Preston Hollow, NY.
He was an Ordnance Master Sergeant in the Army in North Africa and Europe from March 1942 to September 1945, was in the Army Reserve until 1950 and then active duty in Korea from September 1950 to July 1952. He attended Oneonta City Schools and Hartwick College, Oneonta, NY. He first worked for and then owned the Bookhout Funeral Home, Oneonta, NY, until retiring and moving to Green Valley, AZ, in February 1982. He was an elder and president of the Board of the First Presbyterian Church, a member of the BPOE #1312, F & A.M. #466, the American Legion, and the Kiwanis in Oneonta, NY. He was a member and Stephen Minister of the Valley Presbyterian Church in Green Valley, AZ.
Don enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, hiking and traveling during his active years.
He is survived by his wife, Lodema; daughter, Joanne Griswold; son and daughter-in-law, James and Cheryl (Conway) Conner; grandchildren, Kevin and Tasha (Bryant) Griswold, Colleen (Griswold) Henry, Karen Griswold, Derrick and Megan (Conner) Kerr, and Sarah Conner; great-grandchildren, Julius Henry and Alexandra Kerr.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, Dec. 9, at 2:30 p.m. at Valley Presbyterian Church in Green Valley.
