Donald D. Copperwheat, 87, passed away November 14, 2009, at Faxton-St. Lukes Health Care. He was born November 6, 1922, in Oriskany, the son of Sidney and Marjorie Brown Copperwheat, and received his education there. Donald was employed at H. Waterbury Sons and retired from Fisher Auto Parts. He was a WW II Army Veteran, having membership with the New Hartford American Legion Post 1376. Donald enjoyed gardening, fishing, playing rummy, watching Rangers hockey, and enjoyed a glass of burgundy. He is survived by two daughters, Catherine Steffan and husband, Joseph, Grand Island, and Peggy Nugent, Oriskany, and boyfriend, Tony Calenda; a son, Leonard and wife, Cheryl Copperwheat, Houston, TX; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Sidney and Betty Copperwheat, and Richard and Delores Copperwheat, all of Oriskany, and Nancy Copperwheat, Whitesboro; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by brothers, Dudley and John. A special thank you is extended to the Eastern Star Nursing Home and Faxton-St. Lukes Health Care, 5th Floor and the C.C.U. Mr. Copperwheats funeral will be Tuesday at 10 AM at the Dimbleby, Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral Home, 40 Main St., Whitesboro, with the Rev. Sarah Lewis officiating. Calling hours will be Monday (today), 4-7. Interment will be in Oriskany Cemetery with full Military Honors. Members of the New Hartford American Legion Post 1376 will meet at the funeral home Monday evening at 7. Please consider the American Heart Association. Envelopes available at the funeral home.
