NEW BEDFORD - Donald J. Dandurand, 69, of Acushnet, passed away on Tuesday, January 5, 2010, at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness. He was the loving husband of Diane L. (Amaral) Dandurand, married 44 years and son of the late Armand and Delia (Adams) Dandurand.

He was born in Quebec City, Canada and lived most of his life in Acushnet. He was a high school graduate and attended BCC. He retired as a letter carrier for the New Bedford Post Office and was very proud of the fact that he served over 40 years as a member of the Acushnet Fire Department and held the rank of Assistant Chief.

Donald was a member of the Mass. Call/Volunteer Firefighter Assoc. His enjoyment was watching his grandchildren playing hockey and his granddaughter singing at Church. In his leisure time he enjoyed gardening.

Survivors include his wife; his son, Michael D. Dandurand and his wife, Helen of Fairhaven; three daughters, Sandra L. Clermont and her husband, Michael of Acushnet, Delia Abbott and her husband, Neil of OK and Cathy Moore and her husband, Robert of TX; seven grandchildren, Nicole, Alex and Nathan Dandurand, Kira and Cody Abbott and Sarah and Colin Moore; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Thursday 5-7 PM at Rock Funeral Home. His Funeral will be from the Funeral Home on Friday at 10 AM followed by his Funeral Mass at St. Mary Church, New Bedford at 11 AM. Internment Sacred Heart Cemetery.
