Last summer stepsons Tyler and Tony and their children held a birthday dinner for Don at our family cabin in Washougal. He enjoyed the celebration and was happy to talk about past travels and trips he was planning. It was a pleasure to know hum.

As a fellow SSBN bubblehead Veteran and NSP/MHSP ski volunteer I admire your life of service to others and lifelong learning. peace and condolences to your family. As Don is on eternal patrol now I hope the image of my sister´s recent trip in the south is one place he finally got to see.

Don gave back to the community throughout his career and well into retirement. He was a board member of and donor to many organizations which strove to develop young business leaders. He was an active supporter and volunteer of the Harvard Business School Association of Oregon, serving as a board member, officer, and envelope stuffer. He enjoyed a stellar business career and shared his wisdom freely with others. All of the HBS Association volunteers liked Don and were grateful him for his many hours of service.

Don and I worked together on a hair-brained business to start a helicopter commuter service from Vancouver to downtown Portland. I say hair-brained in retrospect because the business would have failed miserably. But 15 years ago it made a lot of business sense, and Don and I could become helicopter pilots. Don's positive, can-do approach to that project was a life lesson for me.

Dear family and friends of Don,
On behalf of the United States Submarine Veterans, we offer our sincere condolences at Don´s passing. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. We are always saddened whenever a fellow "Bubblehead" departs on Eternal Patrol. He served with honor on the USS Lafayette SSBN-616.
To our "Brother-of-the-Phin" we say, "Sailor, rest your oar. We have the watch. Fair Winds and Following Seas." Thank you for your service to our country.
To the family... "may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times in every way. The Lord be with you." 2 Thessalonians 3:16 (ESV).

National Chaplain, USSVI.
