Donald Eugene Harris, 67, of Bluford, passed away at 12:20 p.m. Friday, April 16, 2010, at St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.
He was born Friday, Feb. 12, 1943, in Springerton, a son of Carmel and Marie (Martin) Harris. He married Alice Aydt on Dec. 30, 1961, in McLeansboro, and she survives.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with the Revs. Roger Tate and Merle Fullerton officiating. Interment will follow at Blooming Grove Cemetery in McLeansboro.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.
Mr. Harris is survived by his wife, Alice Harris of Bluford; two sons, Tony Jene Harris and wife Diana of Cisne and Terry Lee Harris and wife Tammy of Mt. Vernon; four grandchildren, Amy and Preston Harris, Melissa Dunn and husband Aaron and Kyle Leegaard; three great grandchildren, Mackenzie, Brody and Charlie Dunn; a sister, Nora Browning and husband Richard of Ewing and a brother, Chalmer Harris and wife Sharon of Evansville, Ind. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
His parents; an infant son, Mark Harris and one brother, Jack Harris, preceded him in death.
Donald was a sales representative for Mohawk Carpet Company. He served on the Webber Township High School Board for 10 years, was a past member of the Ruritan and Elks Clubs,  a member of Marlow General Baptist Church and sang in the gospel group "Songs of Praise" for more than 15 years. He had a great love for children and was instrumental in the creation of the Bluford Little League program, later becoming a coach and a father figure to many. He enjoyed spending time at the lake with friends, was dearly loved by everyone who met him, and he touched so many lives.
For those who wish, memorials may be given to the American Heart Association, American Cancer Society or the Marlow General Baptist Church and will be accepted at the funeral home or mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt. Vernon, IL 62864.
