Donald Edward Hawkins Donald Edward Hawkins of Concord died July 24, 2005 in Concord at the age of 89. Donald was born March 4, 1916 on the family ranch near Hickman, CA. He attended Roberts Ferry Grammar School in Waterford and Oakdale High School before attending and graduating from Modesto Junior College in 1937. His studies continued in mining and metallurgy at UC Berkeley, concluding in 1939. Donald was employed by PG&E for 35 years in the Steam Electric Department, 17 years as supervising chemist in the power plants of the San Francisco Bay Area, three years as superintendent of Vallecitos Nuclear Power Plant near Livermore and finally as supervisor of operations for all six East By Area power plants. He retired in 1977. Donald was an inventor who enjoyed gardening, watercolor painting, wood carving and singing in his church choir. He was a member of SIRS, Diablo Valley Masterworks Chorale and First Presbyterian Church, where he was active for 55 years. Survivors include his beloved wife of 64 years, Lydia; sons, Stanley (Nancy), Roger (Cynthia) and Thomas (Christine) Hawkins; a sister, Dorothy; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by sisters, Helen and Betty; brothers, Fred, Harold and his twin, Ronald. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 13, 2005, at 2:00pm at First Presbyterian Church, 1965 Colfax St., Concord.
