Donald Jump Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Mar. 15 to Mar. 22, 2024.
Donald Wilson Jump passed away on March 11, 2024, after suffering a major stroke. Born on August 31, 1944, in Adrian, Michigan and growing up in Alamosa, Colorado and Roseville, CA, he was under the tender and compassionate care of Partners in Care Hospice Group when he succumbed peacefully.

Don graduated from Roseville High School in 1962 and earned a Masters degree in Geography from Long Beach State. He spent three months traveling around Europe with a backpack filled with clothes but not much money.

After returning to the U.S., he found work in various trades... working as a roofer, owning a restaurant, working on boats in southern California. He finally settled on a career with the SP/UP railroad in Roseville, as a conductor. Don had that "Jump" work ethic that we all inherited from our Greatest Generation relatives and was very good at the job.

Upon retirement, he took many trips to Hawaii and Morro Bay, which were places he loved.

He is survived by sister, Patricia Holmes, (Leigh), Peggy Jump-Newell (David); brother Philip Jump (Cheri); son, Sean Jump, and two stepchildren along with many nieces and nephews.

Don's wife, Pat Zander-Jump, a younger brother, Dennis Jump (Barbara) and daughter Shelley Jump, all preceded him in death.

A celebration of life is being planned for later in the year.

Don, and all of the Jump Family go all the way back to about 1952, when our family of Brent, & Marion Burrell, with kids Mike, Pat, Pete and Laurie moved to Alamosa, CO from Lamar, CO. The parents met, and all of the children all met, and besides neighbors, we all became close friends, which in general terms still is the case to this day. Don, Denny, and Mike and Pat we all pretty close in age, so we shared all kinds of time with each other, and as time passed all 4 Burrell kids became close friends with all five Jump siblings. In fact Don's sisters, Pat and Peggy were the oldest, and baby sat us as we grew up. Brother Phil, also played with us, and traveled with us as a child-sitter. Both families moved to CA in 1957, to Roseville in the Jump Family's case, and to San Rafael in the Burrell families case. Some of the activities we all did were huge picnics, after school and summer playtimes, movies, and BBQ's. Our family will miss Don, (and Denny), but they will always be a part of our lives, and will never be forgotten.
All of the Jumps are like family to us, and we love them all.
