Don was my mentor and my friend. I learned more from him than from any other person in my life. He was good and strong and forgiving. I hope his family can take some comfort in knowing that he lives on in the lives of his students and his colleagues.

I am deeply moved by hearing of the passing of Donald J. Kiesler. Donald Kiesler enthousiastically supported my research with the Dutch version of his Impact Message Inventory for several years, ultimately leading to a co-publication to be published next month. I will remember Donald Kiesler as a very dear colleague. I will sourly miss his frank, thoughtful and witty email messages, which had become so familiar in my daily life. My thoughts are with his wife, children, brothers and friends.

I was saddened to hear of Don's passing and wanted to pay my respects to his family. He was a mentor to me while I was a student at VCU's clinical psychology program in the 1980's and during my residency year. Time with Don was always stimulating, rewarding and fun. He was a gentle man who was generous with his time, his knowledge, and his skill. I continue to use much of what I learned from Don in my work with patients. His impact will live on.

My sympathy to the Kiesler family, as well as close friends and colleagues. Don was a mentor to me while at VCU. It was such a pleasure to work with him, and he was always very positive, empowering, and helpful. I always appreciated his enthusiasm and pleasantness.

My deepest sympathies to the Kiesler family. Don was a senior leader in our field of interpersonal psychology and an inspiration to me. As a first year graduate student at Berkeley, Don was among the first scholars I ever contacted for help. He was welcoming and positive in response. This was the beginning of an ongoing scholarly friendship. I am deeply grateful to have known Don first as an iconic leader of my field and later as a beloved professional colleague. He will be greatly missed.

My deepest sympathy at this time of loss for you. When I joined the VCU faculty in 1978, Don served as one of my clinical supervisors for licensure. We continued to be colleagues since. It has been a great privilege for me to know Don and count him a friend as well as colleague. His life touched many people, and his humanity affected me as a person, a therapist, and a research scientist. He had one of the best work ethics I've seen before he retired, and his dedication to finding more truth has been evident continually since his retirement. He left a big and positive footprint on this earth.

To the Kiesler family, May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow. I am so sorry to hear of the loss of such a wonderful and kind man. I worked for 9 years in the Psychology Department at VCU and Dr. Kiesler was one of the first to welcome me to the department. He always brought a smile to my face and made a point to always say hello to me everyday he was on campus. He wished me well and gave me names of contacts to make when I left Richmond to move to Atlanta to work at Emory. I've always remembered him for that. He will be missed.
