Dearest Don. I am writing only now, since it took me this time to fully digest that you are no longer with us here in the mortal world. Instead, you are now watching over us from a better place. Don, I knew you before I met you, through great stories other colleagues told about you, as a leader in private sector development in VRM. You were way ahead of the institution in this regard, and we got to interview you during the preparation of the new operating model. You shaped the new ADB in this way. Later on, when I became a fellow country director, you were so generous in sharing your wisdom. I learned by observing you, how to be a better country director. Dear Don, I pledge to keep your legacy alive, in my small but steady way. Dear Don, thank you for everything.

Don, your mission was always to serve the world´s most vulnerables. Your work was never just a job-it was a mission driven by passion and purpose. Whether advocating for elder care, championing women´s empowerment, or designing development programs to support the poor, you brought unwavering dedication and compassion to everything you did. You believed deeply in equity and inclusion, and your legacy lives on in the many lives you touched through your efforts to build a more just and humane world.
I want to thank you for always empowering me and acknowledging my contributions in every possible way. I will never forget how you thanked me in front of a large auditorium-not once, but multiple times-sharing the inner details of my efforts and always recognizing the achievements we built together. That meant more than words can express.
Thank you, Don, for all the meaningful conversations we shared-about life, family, children, cultures, and the books that shaped our thinking. You always listened with warmth and curiosity, and I truly appreciated how you acknowledged the reflections I had. The last book we discussed was Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe. You valued the takeaways I shared and promised to think about my perspective... but we didn´t get the chance to continue that conversation again....
I am sure all your unfinished undertakings and plans will be carried forward by your wonderful family, who are the embodiment of your values, charisma, and mindset.
Thank you, Don. You will be missed by many...

I am a classmate of Don's mother Rosemary and I just heard today of this tragic loss. I learned what an incredible person Don was by reading his obituary on this website. I looked at every one of the 172 photos which also tell the story of this wonderful man and which made me weep. I can't imagine losing a child of course but Don's legacy will remain. Having the hope of heaven makes it somewhat bearable. Rosemary, Don's three sisters and the whole family, please accept my deepest deepest condolences.

Dear Don
I am delighted to inform you that the Country Partnership Strategy for Armenia, 2026-2030, which you led the team on, was generally endorsed by the ADB Board on October 1, 2025. I am privileged to work with you on developing this strategy. I am impressed by how you communicate development challenges for clients. You also kindly invited me to high-level meetings and functions with the government officials.
You are a dynamic speaker and have received warm respect from colleagues and friends. You are open-minded and invite me to economic discussions. You have made the best effort to promote our ideas and efforts to our clients. Your prompt response to our request is always appreciated. You are attentive and pay attention to the details.
I did not have many social interactions, as I only met you in Armenia. But I cherish the memories of working with you. I wish I had more time to get to know you and learn from you.
Rest in peace, and you will always be a good friend in my memory.

Dear Amber and Family, our Manila Expat Family,
I only met Don on a few occasions but was taken aback by his energy and positive vibes.
We spent many an hour in the playground with you and the kids. Through this it was evident that you and Don loved your children to the back of beyond and instilled such core foundational values and a will to master the best of life. This is a part of Don´s legacy.
I love how you and Don had a chess board permanently placed on your table, and how the game might last weeks as travel interjected the next move. But it was something to look forward to...the next move...or trip. Don was an adventurer, and I remember you packing very lightly for your holiday trips which from what I can remember involved a fair bit of walking sometimes. These are the wonderful, precious memories that live on...and I pray that you and your kids can smile and laugh again recalling those happy times after the heartbreak feels easier. Thinking of you all and sending our deepest condolences and hugs.

What do you say about Don Lambert...I knew him in his early career before he went on to Ivy League, marriage, children, and greatness. He was a genuine fellow with an open heart and listening ears. I send my heartfelt condolences to his family and wish them the warmth of his legacy when the clouds fade away.

I first met Don during my first mission in Vietnam, just a few months after joining the Office of Risk Management (ORM). Don was at the Vietnam Resident Mission (VRM) at the time. Even before I made the trip to Hanoi, my colleagues at ORM had already mentioned how great Don was and how supportive he would be, especially since I was traveling with our Head of ORM and VPFR Ingrid. Their praises were spot on. The mission went really well, thanks to Don's professionalism. He was well-respected by our government counterparts in Vietnam and much appreciated by the staff at the VRM. What stood out the most was Don´s kindness and his constant readiness to help his colleagues.
I will always remember Don's professionalism and genuine kindness at ADB. My heartfelt condolences go out to his wife, Amber, and his five kids during this tough time. We all feel his loss deeply.

It´s so hard to capture the whole essence of a man like Donny in one obituary, but you managed to do a beautiful job, DeAnn! He really was extraordinary right from the start. As someone who was there the night he was called "half a player" and then benefitted from his ability to memorize the answers of an entire set of Trivial Pursuit cards, I can confidently say I´ve never met anyone quite as sharp and driven as Donny! We all fought to have him on our team after that first night! I´m positive he put that kind of drive and effort into every area of his life. There are people who manage to leave the world a little better than they find it wherever they go. Donny was one of those people. He was a bright, shiny star and one of life´s good guys. He will be missed. Sending my heartfelt condolences to all of you who loved him best.

I had the honor to work closely with Don for two years as his deputy at the ADB Resident Mission in Armenia. What an incredible human being, leader, mentor, and friend. I´ve never met someone as dedicated to making a difference as Don. He really set the right example for the team to follow, embodying the principles of selfless leadership. He brought a combination of focus, charisma, and cohesiveness to the workplace...by far the highlight of my ADB career. He is greatly missed by all.

It was a privilege and an honor to have worked with Don as we join ADB´s then Risk Management Unit at the same time way back August 2008. We fondly call him "Bunso" being the youngest and the smartest International Staff in the team. We worked together in a number of projects, his commitment to developmental work in Asia and passion to always help always shines through. I recall when he moved to the Viet Nam Resident Mission, he would from time to time ask me for training suitable for his work colleagues handling private sector. That embodies who Don is, selfless and consistently shows genuine concern for the people around him. A great family man, his deep faith in God carries him through his year-long battle with illness. Your life on earth is certainly well spent, well done in the eyes of the Lord. You have touched the life of many; you will surely be missed. My sincere condolences and prayers to Amber and the children.

Easter egg hunts, baseball in the rain, the first time I tried asparagus (because Uncle Don put cheese on it), and my first trip to the ballet.
When you guys made it from Boston to New York just days after Xavier was born for my communion.
Sightseeing, volunteering, surfing in the rain and just being with everyone in Manila.
I will cherish all the memories I have with Uncle Don.

Don Lambert
I heard about you many years before we met-a classic case of 'your reputation precedes you'! It helped that you had a catchy name that sounds like a confectionery brand! We hit it off from our first video call after I was assigned to lead a project dear to you (I'm gutted you missed Board approval by 9 days!!)-you got my sarcasm, I got your wit, we had good banter. It was refreshing! And it continued, from your trip to Manila the week after to my many trips to Yerevan.
I am grateful for our many chats and your encouragement and advice on career, life, faith, scripture, book recommendations and family. You told me many individual stories about Amber and the children at different times. Our one-on-one meetings always went longer than the allotted time!
You were so sophisticated in your knowledge of faith, literature, the arts, history, society and of course the financial sector! You really did know your stuff. A genuinely learned man.
I vividly remember that day last year that I heard about the pre-diagnosis incident: I was on holiday far away and had just returned from a morning diving trip. I cancelled my afternoon plans and prayed and sang for hours, for your health and healing. I had known you but a few months but it felt a small but worthy sacrifice.
You embodied 'family first'. I remember halfway through a very important meeting with the DPM, you received photos of Joseph playing in the snow. You lit up and showed them to me and I was gushing about how cute he was... right in front of an unbeknownst to our esteemed meeting participants!
You often said you heard me before seeing me... I took that as friendly subtle criticism. My payback comment was that I'd never had a CD so involved in any of my previous projects! You immediately questioned that comment, haha! It was fun and enlightening working with you.
In an era where integrity in and outside the workplace sometimes leaves a lot to be desired, you shone Don! You were a man of integrity.
I remember the last time I saw you. I was in Yerevan for a relatively long mission-from praying with you in the hospital, to you joining meetings online against everyone's advice, and resisting and showing up in person for that last meeting in shorts!... and then our walk back from the Ministry of Economy. I was hoping that wouldn´t be the last time. Alas, here we are.
You achieved many firsts-from the personal visit from the President, to your unrelenting work ethic right to the very end (whereas others would've taken extended sick leave, and deservedly so, but you didn't), to the unparalleled show of support and love you've been receiving. The same love you always extended to colleagues. "This is my vocation" as you always said.
I am talkative (hence our meeting overruns) and as evidenced by the length of this message (!), but I'll never have another chance to honor you so I'm taking advantage of it!
Romans 5:1-5 will always remind me of you Don, after that exchange we had about the passage at a difficult time during your treatment.
To your wonderful family-Amber and the kids. So much love is being poured out to you. You all must be immensely proud of the husband and father Don was. Thank you for sharing him with us. May the favor and love of the Lord comfort and surround you, always.
Whilst many tears are shed, we celebrate your short but exemplary life, Don. Rest in peace dear colleague, friend and brother in Christ! Your memory lives on.

Don is my idol. I first met him at the Hilton Hotel in Hanoi, where he delivered a speech about microfinance. It was the first time I'd ever listened to someone speak so closely, and it all started with his opening: 'After my speech, I want you to remember 3 things...'
To this day, I still follow Don's approach every time I speak publicly, and I consider him a teacher I deeply look up to and learn from. I feel fortunate to have met someone so passionate and empathetic about his work. I will miss you tremendously.

Don was a devoted husband and father of five children, forming a truly remarkable couple with, Amber, his wife. Together they built a strong and loving family deeply rooted in Catholic faith, offering an unwavering witness to the Gospel. His kindness, humility, and joyful spirit inspired all who met him, and he had a profound influence on our own children, especially Augustin and Timothee. Don prepared Augustin for his confirmation and, despite his illness, he continued to show remarkable commitment and generosity. It was a powerful testimony. Lucile was so happy to take care of Joseph for a few days, and Augustin was a close friend of Jean-Paul; we will pray for Don´s intercession to cure and help Augustin in his recovery, believing that Don, his godfather for his confirmation, who has already inspired so many, can help Augustin heal. Knowing Don and his family has been an immense privilege and blessing for us. His example of service, prayer, and generosity remains a model for everyone who knew him, and we believe he lived as a true saint among us. We keep his whole family in our thoughts and prayers at this time. Even from a distance, we are bound by strong and genuine ties of friendship. God bless your family. Dearest Don I just want to Praise the Lord for allowing me to know you, you became my mentor, my friend, my brother. Your testimony of life, your faith, your integrity make you a person with Moral Authority. Wherever you go you make sure God is the Center of your life and your family and ADB your priorities. Helping many people making the difference, because your help was not only economic but Spiritual as well.
I told many times to you and Amber, that you are a Holy Family and to be Holy has the cost. But You are a man of Prayer a man of God. He loves you so much that is the reason why He brings you home. You are a shining Start and the Lord wanted that light to shine brighter, many of us experience that light personally and got strengthened by it. You will be missed here on earth but our faith tells us that you are much closer to us than before.
For you Amber, Xavier, Jonh Paul, Katherine, Bernadette and Joseph be strong Don will not abandoned you he will continue protecting and guiding you. THANK YOU FOR BEING A TESTIMONY OF A TRUE FAMILY. I love you so much and you are always in our prayers. The Capuchin Tertiary Sisters are very grateful with you and your family.
Rest in Peace my dearest Don and continue shining.

The first time I met Don, he took me for Vietnamese coffee at a military themed cafe called Cng Cà Phê in Hanoi, where we sat street side and talked more about life but also about work. Even then I realized how important family, God, and ADB's development mission were to him.
When I last spoke to Don, he told me that he had two goals in life, one was to be great husband and father, and the other was to help those in need.
Reading about Don's life and the tributes here, I can see that even in his 48 years he achieved those goals. Gone too soon, but with a deep legacy left behind, we will miss you, Don. Rest in Peace.

I am deeply saddened by Don´s passing. I had the privilege of working with him on the water and urban portfolio in Armenia, where I greatly valued his unwavering support, exceptional coordination skills, and deep passion for development. Don worked tirelessly and set an example for all of us-his kindness, wisdom, and leadership will remain an inspiration.
It was an honor to have him as a colleague and friend. I share here a photo from 9 October 2023, when he joined our mission visit to the landfill and dumpsites in Armenia-a moment that reminds me of his dedication and commitment in the field.
My heartfelt condolences to Amber and Don´s family. May Don rest in peace, and may his legacy continue to guide and inspire us.

I had the privilege of working with Don during his time at the Viet Nam Resident Mission. Don´s warmth, kindness, intelligence, genuine spirit and deep faith left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
What stood out most, though, was how deeply devoted he was as a husband and father. His love for his family was always so clear. Don spoke of his wife with such adoration, wrote multiple blogs with his children on his lap, and attended virtual meetings with them playing in the background. He made balancing it all look effortless, with such grace, love, and authenticity. The joy and pride he had in his family was truly inspiring.
Don was taken far too soon. My heart and prayers are with the Lambert family during this difficult time. May Don rest in peace, and may his love and memory continue to be a source of comfort and strength for you.

Dear Don, Amber and family,
Don you are with our Lord Jesus now. You have come out victorious and won the great race of life with grace and an amazing faith. You touched so many lives, most of all your family. And you touched us the Hublin family too in Vietnam and after with your kindness, generosity and great faith. It was just the greatest pleasure to have gotten to know you, to call you friend... Please pray and smile over us all from your heavenly home.
Dear Amber, Don is with you all forever and he´s smiling and interceding right now, praying for you and asking the Holy Spirit to keep you strong and united. And you will be. That is the Lambert way. We are here for you all at this time and are praying. Please never hesitate to let us know if we can be of any help.
God be with you all now and forever. You are never separate, but always and forever together in God´s hands!

"If you want something done fast, you do it yourself. If you want something done right, you do it together." - Don Lambert
With this rousing vision during one meeting, Don was able to unite even competing stakeholders to align and commit. That was his power, not just technical proficiency or innovative ideas, but the ability to inspire and bring people together. His work transformed institutions across countries, but even more lasting was how he made his team believe in their own potential.
To me, Don was whole. His projects, innovations, routines, family life, service, and faith all flowed in one direction. Doubt had no place. His confidence was always anchored in faith: faith in the Lord, in his projects, in his teams, the system, and in people long before they saw their own potential.
My deepest condolences to Amber and their beautiful family. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the institutions he transformed. We will always remember that to do things well, we must be grounded in faith and in people.

I had the great pleasure of knowing Don since 2019. Over the years he was a great collaborator and a valued friend. He demonstrated what good leadership looks like, how care and compassion are more useful leadership traits that fear or favor. He provided me with feedback, guidance and provoked my thinking. I am grateful to have known him. He was a bright star in an often dark sky.
I hope he is at peace and from his new perch he can continue to sprinkle a little of his goodness on us all.
I am grateful for his friendship and will miss him. He was a genuinely wonderful human

Dear Amber, I am so sorry for your incredible loss and for not being in Yerevan to honor Don`s life in person tomorrow. Don was a remarkable person who taught all of us an immense lesson in how to confront the process of preparing to die. Over the last year I had several conversations with him on the topic and his serenity, focus on the family and his life purpose felt like such a blessing. What was present each time was that he was at peace with his fate and that he seemed to find this peace in faith and the sense that he had lived his life well. Professionally it has been a privilege working with him on the housing response for refugees, a project he was passionate about until the end. The idea of our collaboration came in Moldova (see photo). Your entire family will be in my prayers tomorrow and beyond. Carolin

It's a lifetime chance for me to work with Don during the 2022-2023 period. He saw the efforts of the staff and supported our growth continuously even when we no longer worked together. I was motivated by his encouragement and heartful advice for my career. I could have made my significant career moves thanks to his reference and introduction. The last catch-up email that I received from him just last month was still encouraging words.
Beside work, Don devoted his life to his family with love and care. I have been always admiring him for his devotion and energy to care for the people around him at once.
My sincere condolences to Amber, the children, and the family. Don's legacy of the meaningful life remains in our hearts and in the way we're living our lives.

Beyond inspiring, and a hole too big to fill. Holding you, Amber and the children in my thoughts and heart. Rest in peace.

I had the privilege to work with Don from early 2022 to 2023 and was always amazed by his warmth, optimism, and boundless energy. He had a rare gift of making you believe in yourself and inspiring you to reach higher. Don was more than an extraordinary leader-he was a mentor and a friend whose encouragement and spirit will always stay with me. May you rest in peace, Don.

In Memory of Don Lambert
I am deeply saddened by the passing of our colleague, Don, who worked closely with us on the development and design of a PPP project in Vietnam. His intelligence, strategic thinking, and deep understanding of the Vietnam PPP market were truly exceptional. Don brought clarity and insight to complex challenges, and his contributions have left a meaningful impact on our work and the sector.
It feels like just yesterday we were discussing the project during the COVID pandemic, with the background sounds of children playing-a moment that reflected the humanity and warmth he brought to our professional collaboration.
My sincere condolences to Don´s family and loved ones. May he rest in peace.

My deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathy to Don's family. Sending prayers, thoughts of strength, and peace. Don was a great boss and mentor of mine during my time at ORM. He never failed to ask how I was doing every time I chanced upon him in Manila. He has one of the brightest smiles I've ever seen. He always had a "can do" positive disposition that was inspiring. Will miss is his bright presence at ADB.

Dearest Amber,
The adage "only the good die young" rings true for Don. You know that my prayers have been with you and Don for months, and I want to assure you that they will continue to accompany you and the children. I truly am so sorry for your loss yet so grateful for the beautiful witness you have both been and are in the face of such a heavy cross. May the loving embrace of Mama Mary comfort you, especially when you need most. May Don finally receive his heavenly reward for a life so well lived

I am truly saddened by Don's passing and the loss of a great colleague. Don's fighting spirit exemplifies the best of an ex-army soldier and a development professional. Don is also remembered fondly as a dedicated father by my wife, who taught three of his children at BSM for Mandarin Chinese some years ago. His devotion to work and family is so admirable and makes the loss more unbearable. Please accept the sincere condolence from my entire family.

Though I only met Don in person once, our email correspondence revealed his genuine, caring nature that truly reflected the best of humanity. His dedication, thoughtful mentorship, and unwavering commitment to both professional excellence and family values left a lasting impression on everyone who worked with him. He leaves this world far too young, yet with a profound and lasting impact.
There's an Armenian saying: "When your father dies, your sun shifts forever, and you walk in his light." Perhaps it's no coincidence that Don, who served as ADB's Country Director in Armenia, departed from the same land that offers such wisdom about fathers and their enduring light. Don stood as a brilliant example of goodness, a devoted servant of God, loving father, husband, son, and brother, and inspiring colleague. His children will walk forever in the radiant path he carved through his deep faith, dedicated service, and infinite love.
My deepest condolences to the Lambert family. May Don rest in eternal peace.

Greeted by Don's smile over 20 years ago when Amber introduced him, I knew he was a special person. He made my friend happy ,and she spoke so many wonderful words of excitement about their future. To see the growth of your family, your love for God shine through all endeavors and to see how many people speak such kind words about Don, makes me smile. He will be missed but his legacy shines on in his amazing family. As the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life's routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends.

I had the great privilege of meeting Don right after he and Amber started dating. I knew he was something special when he would travel from Seattle to Boston with a separate suitcase packed full of home-cooked meals that he would freeze in separate containers and lovingly wrap in foil and Ziploc bags so that Amber didn´t have to worry about making food while she studied. It was remarkable to watch their love blossom as they zigzaged across the United States just to see each other at least once a month. We were all so excited when they got engaged and started planning their wedding. They were the epitome of couples goals just to witness how they communicated with one another and how they built their marriage on a foundation of God´s word. As a matter of fact, when I met my (now) husband, they were the first people I called to ask for relationship advice. Although I met Don through Amber, I truly considered him a great friend to me as well. I used to love sitting with him on the Boston Hatchshell, listening to classical music or jazz while discussing a range of topics over wine and cheese that he always packed whenever we met up. He taught me how to salut properly and the Army fight song (before I started my Army journey). I used to live for the days of a dinner invitation just to experience his culinary masterpieces. I had never had pumpkin cheesecake made from scratch, and although I am not a pumpkin lover, he made me a convert. I had never seen anyone make pasta from scratch (let alone spinach pasta) and I remember him jokingly saying to me "tiff! it´s so easy!" You know it had to be true love between those two because anyone who could spend their second year marriage in a 600 square-foot studio and not devolve into madness must be madly in love lol! He loved Amber with all of his heart and soul. It was even more of a delight to see him grow into his role as a father. He was such a wonderful dad to each and everyone of his children. His dad adventures were legendary and honestly, some of them were so crazy that I was worried them getting attacked by some random jungle tiger or great white shark lol! He will definitely be missed, but just knowing that God has another angel up there gives me peace. Until we meet again....
