QUITMAN – Memorial services for Donald Dean Mathis will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Ron Stanley officiating. Wright's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Mathis, 72, of Quitman, died Thursday, April 9, 2009, in Lauderdale County. Throughout his life, Don was a husband, father, brother, grandfather and uncle. He was involved in coaching and teaching and an administrator. Last of all, he was a business owner of Mathis Super Corner in Meridian. Don Mathis was a devoted member of the adult Sunday School at First United Methodist Church in Quitman. He had a personal relationship with the Lord and was very active in his church. Whenever he was called on, no matter who was calling, he always gave strength, wisdom and peace mixed in with all the Godly advice that was needed. God determines who walks into your life ... it's up to you to decide who you let walk away, who you let stay and who you refuse to let go. Don was a man that everyone needed to have in their lives. May God bless us all. Survivors include his wife, Wyoma Mathis of Quitman; a son, Mark Mathis and his wife, Rose, of Pine Mt. Club, Calif.; two daughters, Kristina Mathis of Holman, Wisc, and Debra Jamieson and her husband, Scott, of LaVista, Neb.; nine grandchildren, Nate Mathis and his wife, Nicki, Travis Mathis, Lindsay Bakke, Nick Mathis and his wife, Lori, Josh Jamieson, Jena Mathis, Kevin Bakke, Trevor Mathis and Ben Jamieson; three great-grandchildren- McKenna Mathis, McKinnley Mathis and Logan Mathis; two brothers, James Mathis and his wife, Sharon, of Casper, Wyo. and Fred Mathis of Meridian; an Uncle, Gealey Mathis and his wife, Sidone, of Chadron, Neb.; five nephews, Michael Mathis and his wife, Chondra, James Mathis and his wife, Tammy, Cory Mathis and his wife, Kathy, Bobby Koschene and Jimmy Koschene and his wife, Dawn; and two nieces, Connie Mosher and Krisa Mathis. He was preceded in death by a son, Brad Mathis; his parents, Chester and Irene Mathis; and a brother, Dewayne Mathis. Visitation will be Monday at 9 a.m. at the funeral home.

Wyoma, Jim, Sharon and all of the Mathis clan: My first entry apparently got lost in cyberspace so I'm re-sending to tell you that Don's athletic endeavors have always left wonderful memories for me, but his life success with you and yours has clearly been an even greater achievement.  He's been an All-American human being.
