Donald Edward Meyer

March 5, 1950 - March 23, 2025

Donald Edward Meyer, a lifelong resident of Buffalo, NY, passed away due to coronary artery disease on March 23, 2025, at the age of 75. He leaves behind his dearest wife, Debra Meyer, and his loving children: Amber Walde and her husband Lucas of King George, VA; Karielle Plumb and her husband William of St. George, Utah; and Caitlin Dominique and her husband Joseph of Buffalo, NY. Don also cherished his stepsons, whom he loved as his own: Lance VanDusen (Maureen), Ryan VanDusen (Jessica), and Andrew Olsen (Kyla). He is also survived by his numerous grandchildren and his siblings, Larry Meyer (Karen) and Cheryl McCall (Mark). He was predeceased by his parents, Donald and Mary Jane Meyer, as well as his brother, Dennis Meyer.

Don was an avid outdoorsman who found true joy in nature. He loved snowmobiling, four-wheeling, riding his motorcycle, and fishing. Above all, his greatest passion was bow hunting. He spent countless hours in the woods, and during hunting season, it was rare to find him anywhere other than a tree stand.

A dedicated sports fan, Don cheered faithfully for the Buffalo Bills, though hockey held a special place in his heart. His favorite team was, of course, the Buffalo Sabres, and he rarely missed watching a game. More than just a spectator, he also loved playing hockey and spent years coaching his stepsons' team, passing on his knowledge and passion for the game to the next generation.

He dedicated years of his life serving as a Correctional Officer for the New York State Department of Corrections. In his later years, Don embraced a quieter life at home with his wife, enjoying his favorite cop dramas, comedies, and regular outings for coffee.

A non-denominational memorial service will be held in Don's honor on Saturday, April 5, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1424 Maple Rd., Amherst, NY, at 1:00 PM. A private luncheon for family will follow.

May memories of him provide comfort for all who knew him.

The love of friends and family carry you through your grief. My cousin was a part of my early life. We camped out at Zoar Valley, with our parents, brothers and sisters, sometimes with friends. My fondest memory was the game of (you´re it - tag). The place we played in was a field of planted pine trees, the ground was out of bounds. Like a bunch of Tarzan want-a-be. I think it was Donny that broke his arm or maybe Denny ! We would also swing from vines, collecte fire wood, and generally ran around all day together, having fun !
