DONALD R. MORRIS (1924-2002) DONALD R. MORRIS, on 4 December, age 78, of complications from heart disease. Born 11 November 1924 to S. Fred and Vera D. Morris of New York City. Graduated Horace Mann School for Boys, 1942, and U. S. Naval Academy, 1948. Active naval service from 1942 until 1956; retired as Lieutenant Commander. CIA officer in Soviet counterespionage operations from 1956 until 1972. Served his nation 30 years in World War II, South Korea, West Berlin, Paris, Kinshasa and Vietnam. Houston resident and journalist from 1972; Houston Post foreign affairs columnist from 1972 until 1989, publisher of Donald R. Morris Newsletter from 1989. Historian (The Washing of the Spears) and Novelist (China Station, Warm Bodies). Commercial pilot, CFI(I). Preceded in death by daughter Margaret H. Morris and second wife Karen Friman. Survived by daughter Sarah P. Morris and son-in-law John Papadopoulos, son Michael L. Morris and daughter-in-law Kelly Cassaday and grand-daughter Helen Isabel Morris, daughter Julia M. Kashkashian and son-in-law Dikran Kashkashian, stepdaughter Kristina Friman, and longtime companion Martha (Mart) Botha. An event to celebrate Donald's life will be held early next year, on a date yet to be decided.

We have looked forward to receiving the Newsletter every Friday for years. What a wonderful mind, and what a wonderful life. His passing will leave a void hard to fill.

I subscribed to Mr. Morris's newsletter from the beginning, and have been greatly entertained and improved. I will miss his warm presence, and the bump I got each week.
