Donald Edward Parker

Professor Parker was one of my favorite professors as an undergraduate at Miami. He began every lecture with a review of the week's upcoming cultural events and urged us all to attend. As a grad student, I will never forget participating in his motion sickness experiments. Dr. Parker was interesting and inspirational and I'm fortunate to have crossed paths with him.

I would like to express my condolences to your family. I was an undergraduate psych major at Miami in the 80s and eventually became a psychologist in part due to enthusiastic and knowledgeable professors such as Dr. Parker. Dr. Parker fascinated us with his research and engagement in the interesting topic of his work at NASA. I still remember the first day I met him. Know that he touched many beyond your family; thank you for having shared him with us. We will continue to keep you all in our thoughts and prayers.

I have fond memories of my grad student days spending many hours spinning on one of Don's tables! My vestibular sytem also remembers! I respected his enthusiasm for knowing.

So sad to learn of Don's death. He made important contributions to Miami's Department of Psychology and was a great colleague. With his first wife, Lynn, he was welcoming to Karl and Me when I first came to Miami. We co-taught a seminar together on Stress and I served as Assistant Chair when he was Chair. He always shared with great pride and joy stories of his kids as they were growing into the very accomplished adults they are today. My condolences to Sharon and all of Don's family.

Don was chair of Psych at Miami when I was hired in 1979. What a gentleman and scholar. My condolences to the family, especially Geoff and Sharon whom I knew a bit better. I was wondering recently if he might make another pilgrimage to Oxford before I retired. I will miss him.

When I first entered vestibular research in the 1970s, Don was one of the first people I met, and already had earned a big reputation. We worked together on several NASA flight projects in the 1980s. He was a wonderful colleague and friend. I will miss him. Chuck Oman MIT

Don was a scholarly and humorous, and very capable colleague, in the small but active group of scientists trying to understand and prevent space motion sickness. He will be missed by colleagues around the world.

Don was always an active member of our Silver Lake Association and brought so many ideas and suggestions to keep our precious lake clean and active. He will be greatly missed. God Bless!!

Don was such a friendly man. I met him at the Food Bank and he always said hello and stopped to chat when he came by my station. Seeing him always brought a smile to my face and I'll miss his kindness!

So sorry to hear about your dad. My first memory of meeting him and you all was really at Jim and Kathy's wedding. You all are such a great family I was delighted for my brother to be able to be a part of the wonderful family your dad and mom created. We'll be thinking of you all and your own beautiful families and Sharon in this sad time.
