Donald Roger Pieper

I have always thought of Don as a sweet and special man … that rare intellectual who didn't have a trace of arrogance. His wit was ever-present, but never biting or sarcastic. His smile was gentle, his laugh was infectious. He was delighted with people and places and books and banter and it showed. I am so glad that I knew him.

Don and I emailed each other and he often quoted me in his column.
He was quite a guy, there will never be another like him in journalism.

One of the finest people and best journalists I had the pleasure to know. I worked at the State Capitol in the early/mid 70s and have the fondest memories of Don. My deepest sympathies to the family on a great loss ... Don was a treasure!
