Donald A. Ramstad, 90, of Zumbrota, died Thursday, June 21, 2018 at his home.
Donald Anders Ramstad was born on Jan. 19, 1928, in Wanamingo Township, Goodhue county to H. Oscar and Bertha (nee Bakkethun) Ramstad. He grew up on the family farm and graduated from Kenyon High School in 1945. Don worked several different jobs, including mining gold in Alaska.
On Oct. 14, 1950, he married Ruth Blakstad. On Nov. 30, 1950, he entered the U.S. Army. He served during the Korean conflict and was honorably discharged on Oct. 31, 1952. In 1954, Don and Ruth started Ramstad Construction, which specialized in road construction. Together they ran the business until selling it on July 4, 1988. Ruth died on March 15, 1997. On Nov. 6, 1999, Don married Janet Trelstad at Minneola Lutheran Church. Don enjoyed fishing, golfing, traveling and loved to play cards, especially cribbage.
Don is survived by his wife, Janet; children, Linda (Rick) Erredge of Austin, Debora (LeRoy) Schliep of Pine Island and Dr. David Ramstad of Camp Humphreys, South Korea; grandchildren, Col. Rick (Katherine) Erredge, USAF, of Bonaire, Ga., Matt (Kristen) Erredge of Rochester, Jennifer Fogarty and Nicole (Joey) Hahn, both of Zumbrota; great-grandchildren, Jakob, Caden and Elliott Erredge, Layna Erredge, Sophia, Lauren, Hayley Jo and Sydney Hahn and Conner and Olivia Fogarty; sister-in-law, Judy Blakstad; brother-in-law, Marvin Walstad; stepson, Bradley (Angie) Trelstad of Colorado Springs, Colo.; stepdaughter, Cynthia (Jim) Pinson of Glendale, Ariz.; and stepgrandchildren, Brian, Heidi and Holly Pinson.
Don was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth; parents, Oscar and Bertha; and siblings, Rueben, Clifford, Herman, Harland, Eva and Alma.
The family suggests memorials to the Perpetual Care Fund of Minneola Lutheran Church Cemetery.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 26, at Minneola Lutheran Church in rural Goodhue, with Pastor Hannah Bergstrom de Leon officiating. Burial with military honors will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday, June 25 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home - Larson Chapel in Zumbrota.
