He confirmed my love of history and always showed me that its teachings were important for today and not just an exercise of antiquarianism.

A delightful man! I had the honor of meeting him about 13 yrs ago at his dental office, where I work as a hygienist. We would often discuss books we were reading, swapping titles of good reads. I loved hearing about his European adventures.
Recently, I gave him a ride on my hygiene chair, so he would not have to walk all the way to the front desk. I think he enjoyed the ride, although, I admit it may have been bumpy! He will be sorely missed. Maria DeAngelis

I am so sorry to hear this news. My husband and I are members of the St. Sebastian's book club, and we admired Don so much for his erudition, his incredible memory and stories, his interest in the world, and his dedication to good literature. He was a moderator who never took control of the discussion, though he always had interesting information for us about the book, author, and times. He always listened carefully to everyone's comments, respected all our opinions, and made us feel welcome in the group and in his home. We will miss him terribly.
